Job Title: Staff Grade Medical Scientist - Haematology Location: South Dublin Department: Haematology Contract Type: Full-Time, 1 Year Specified Purpose Contract (35 hours/week + On-Call) Salary: HSE Aligned Pay Scales Excel Recruitment are currently seeking a CORU-registered Staff Grade Medical Scientist with training and experience in Haematology for a leading JCI-accredited hospital in South Dublin. This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and supportive laboratory team, working under the guidance of an experienced Chief Medical Scientist and Laboratory Manager. We are in search of a Proactive, Dynamic CORU registered Medical Scientist on behalf of this South Dublin hospital. Purpose of the role: To provide a high quality diagnostic Haematology service in line with best practice and laboratory standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis, interpretation, and validation of Haematology samples and will support the delivery of accurate and timely results for patient care. Key Responsibilities: Perform a broad range of Haematology investigations in accordance with departmental protocols and quality standards. Process and validate patient samples using manual and automated methods in areas such as Full Blood Counts, Coagulation testing, and Blood Film analysis. Operate and maintain Haematology laboratory equipment, ensuring daily QC and preventative maintenance are performed and documented. Monitor and assess internal quality control results and participate in external quality assurance programmes. Troubleshoot technical issues and escalate to senior staff or service engineers where necessary. Participate in out-of-hours and on-call rota as required. Record, interpret and verify results, and bring abnormal or unexpected results to the attention of senior staff or clinicians promptly. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of INAB/ISO 15189 standards and contribute to ongoing quality improvement. Maintain accurate records and participate in audit processes and laboratory accreditation preparation. Comply with Health and Safety regulations and assist in identifying and managing laboratory risks. Engage in continuous professional development and participate in training of junior staff or students, if required. Contribute to departmental meetings, service reviews, and evaluations. Qualifications: Hold a BSc in Medical Science (Clinical Measurement) or equivalent qualification recognised by CORU. Be registered or eligible for registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist. Minimum 1-year post-qualification experience in a Haematology laboratory setting (essential). Proven competence in the operation and maintenance of automated Haematology analysers and associated technologies. Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems, including ISO 15189 standards. Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
