OverviewWe are hiring a Staff Nurse to join our Oncology team on a full-time permanent contract.Location: Limerick Cancer CentreJob type: PermanentKey ResponsibilitiesPractice Nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing Board (An Bord Altranais) and Professional Clinical Guidelines.Adhere to national, regional and local Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines, policies, protocols and legislation.Work within their scope of practice and take measures to develop and maintain the competence necessary for professional practice.Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour and be accountable for their practice.Be aware of ethical policies and procedures which pertain to their area of practice.Respect and maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the patient.Follow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management structure and Clinical Practice.Deliver the nursing care of an assigned group of patients within best practice / evidence based care; manage a designated caseload.Promote the health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients within our services.Actively participate as a multi-disciplinary / inter-disciplinary team member in all aspects of service delivery including case conferences, clinical meetings and team meetings.Assess, plan, implement and evaluate person-centred care programmes within an agreed framework and in accordance with best practice.Develop and promote good interpersonal relationships with patients, their family / social network supports and the interdisciplinary care team.Ensure that care is carried out in an empathetic and ethical manner, with dignity and spiritual needs respected.Promote and recognise patients’ social and cultural dimensions of care and links with their local community.Collaborate with the patient, their family, the multidisciplinary team, external agencies and services to facilitate discharge planning, continuity of care and specific care requirements.Provide appropriate and timely education and information to the patient and their family; advocate for the individual patient and their family.Report and consult with senior nursing management on clinical issues as appropriate.Maintain accurate written nursing records and reports regarding patient care in accordance with local / national / professional guidelines.Participate in innovation, change, clinical audit and review to improve patient care delivery.Promote quality improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing community delivery of care as appropriate.Delegate to and supervise the work of other staff within the remit of their role, as appropriate.Demonstrate flexibility by rotating / assisting in other units / care settings as required to meet nursing resource needs.Refer clients to other services as required.Clinical GovernanceParticipate in clinical governance structures within local / regional / national frameworks.Contribute to monitoring, audit and evaluation of the service as appropriate.Record and report all complaints to appropriate personnel according to local service policy.Develop policies / procedures and guidelines to support compliance with legal requirements for safe storage and administration of medicines and other clinical products.Develop policies / procedures with health, safety, risk and management personnel and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.Observe, report and take action on matters detrimental to patient care; comply with governance, risk, safety and quality principles.Participate in infection prevention and control guidelines; adhere to organisational dress code.Coordinate unit / care setting management in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager; take responsibility for own competency and development.Complete mandatory training; participate in performance evaluation and provide feedback for student proficiency assessments.Engage in reflective practice and contribute to population health learning opportunities.Participate in induction of new nursing and support staff and in planning education and training programs as appropriate.Develop performance indicators in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager and contribute to service planning and improvement.Maintain records and submit activity data to the Clinical Nurse Manager as required; contribute to policy development, budgetary control and information sharing protocols.Ensure equipment is safe and functioning; assist with ordering of supplies and efficient use of consumables.Undertake other duties as required by the Clinical Nurse Manager.Management And OrganisationFamiliarise themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines related to their clinical care and area; assist in policy reviews under direction.LeanLead, facilitate and participate in lean projects across disciplines and departments; problem solve and improve using lean tools; participate in on-site training as required.PersonnelFollow uniform policy as required.GeneralPossible movement to other hospital areas as required by patient needs; provide documentary evidence of training and experience when requested; respect organisational values of the hospital.Quality & Safety – Safe Culture: participate in quality and safety programmes; plan, monitor and evaluate performance indicators; initiate and evaluate audits under guidance.Health & Safety: protect own safety and that of others; report hazards; attend annual Fire Health & Safety education.Information Governance: keep patient and staff information confidential and secure.Qualifications & ExperienceSkills Essential to the PostCompetent in IV chemotherapy administrationCompetent in accessing CVAD devicesCompetent in IV Cannulation & PhlebotomyQualificationsStatutory Registration with the General Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or eligibility for registration.Be registered or eligible for registration; maintain annual live registration.On appointment, maintain live annual registration and provide PSAC as required.Additional notes: Candidates must possess knowledge, clinical and administrative ability to discharge the role; health and character requirements; annual registration with NMBI; confirm PSAC with HSE.Experience1-2 years Oncology experience; postgraduate or equivalent desirable.Personal CompetenciesProfessional Knowledge & ExperienceDemonstrates practitioner competence, professionalism and evidence-based decision-making; commitment to CPD; IT competency.Planning And Organising SkillsEffective planning and organising; manage deadlines; understand resource management and value for money; flexibility and adaptability.Communication SkillsExcellent written and verbal communication;
