Basic Grade Pharmacy Technician - UPMC Waterford

Overview of role:
We are currently recruiting a Pharmacy Technician, Basic Grade, for UPMC Whitfield.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Act at all times to ensure that the care and safety of patients is given the highest priority.
* Understand, model, and promote UPMC core values: Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Responsibility and Integrity, Excellence and Innovation.
* Carry out stock control and procurement procedures for all materials (pharmaceuticals and disposable equipment) used in the pharmacy, in line with relevant laws, regulations, professional guidance, and best practices.
* Order medications and pharmaceutical products from approved vendors according to departmental policies and SOPs.
* Dispense, issue, and distribute medications to wards and clinical areas following departmental policies and SOPs.
* Receive and check in pharmacy deliveries in compliance with the EU Falsified Medicines Directive and departmental procedures.
* Ensure drugs are stored safely and securely.
* Sort and return medications for reintegration into stock or disposal as appropriate, following departmental policies.
* Manage and oversee ward stocks of medications and pharmaceutical products.
* Perform extemporaneous compounding as directed, in line with departmental policies.
* Maintain standards of clinical hygiene within the pharmacy and hospital campus, in accordance with infection control policies.
* Support the safe and cost-effective management of new medications on the UPMC formulary.
* Participate in systems for managing medicine stock shortages.
* Develop, maintain, and audit SOPs for pharmacy technical services.
* Participate in engagement and competency reviews.
* Identify and report deficiencies in medication management systems.
* Report discrepancies, incidents, or deficits in services to the relevant senior staff.
* Support incident reporting to enhance safety and quality.
* Participate in technological and service innovations.
* Adhere to HR policies and procedures.
* Perform other duties as assigned by senior staff.
* Engage in continuous professional development.
* Assist in training new pharmacy staff.
* Support pharmacy transformation and accreditation processes.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential Criteria:
* Pharmaceutical Technicians Diploma from the University of Dublin, or
* QQI Level 6 Pharmacy Technicians qualification from recognized institutions, or
* Pharmacy Services Certificate (NVQ 3) from the Irish Pharmaceutical Union, or
* Equivalent relevant qualification.
Evidence of ongoing CPD and good knowledge of hospital pharmacy services required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience in hospital pharmacy, procurement, and SOP development.
