A technology group is expanding its security architecture function and adding a Senior Cloud Security Architect to guide design decisions across large-scale environments. The role blends hands-on technical depth with advisory work, helping enterprise engineering teams design defensible cloud foundations, reduce misconfiguration risk, and embed automation across their delivery workflows.
You'll collaborate across multiple technical domains: cloud, identity, network, DevOps, and platform engineering, shaping the guardrails that keep distributed environments resilient and predictable.
The Role
You will lead the design, review, and validation of cloud security architectures across Azure-centric and hybrid estates. Expect a mix of strategy, design assurance, security automation, and hands-on work with identity, policy, IaC pipelines, and monitoring stacks. This is a senior role with influence, not a box-ticking function: you'll be expected to challenge design assumptions and help engineering teams make better decisions.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Architect secure cloud environments and validate design decisions across identity, network, data, and platform layers
2. Develop cloud security baselines, policy bundles, and guardrails for Azure and hybrid environments
3. Review cloud architecture patterns and recommend improvements grounded in practical risk reduction
4. Lead security assessments and architectural walkthroughs, producing clear and actionable technical outputs
5. Design and maintain landing zone frameworks and automated deployment patterns using IaC
6. Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines and delivery workflows
7. Strengthen cloud observability: logging patterns, security signal quality, detection coverage
8. Support Zero Trust adoption across identity, device, access, and segmentation models
9. Provide remediation guidance and partner with engineering teams to close design gaps
10. Mentor engineers, advise technical leads, and support threat-modelling sessions
11. Contribute to long-term cloud security strategy and capability development
Skills & Experience
12. Strong background in cloud security architecture within large-scale Azure environments
13. Deep knowledge of Azure identity, policy, monitoring, and security services
14. Advanced proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred, Bicep/ARM beneficial)
15. Solid understanding of cloud networking, segmentation, and trust boundary design
16. Experience integrating security controls into CI/CD and automated deployment workflows
17. Familiarity with Zero Trust principles applied within cloud ecosystems
18. Strong knowledge of cloud security frameworks and regulatory drivers
19. Ability to produce clear technical documentation and architecture guidance
20. Experience collaborating with engineering, DevOps, and compliance groups
21. Cloud and security certifications are beneficial but not required
Nice to Have
22. Experience securing multi-cloud (AWS or GCP)
23. Familiarity with CSPM, CIEM, and cloud governance tooling
24. Understanding of regulated-industry requirements and audit expectations
25. Exposure to OT/ICS environments or hybrid platform designs
