The aim of the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Infection Prevention and Control is to optimise patient care through the prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of health‑care acquired infection (HCAI).
Responsibilities
* Work as part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team in line with the Strategy for Control of Antimicrobial Resistance in Ireland.
* Contribute to patient care through prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of health‑care acquired infection (HCAI).
* Provide and maintain a comprehensive, efficient and effective infection prevention & control service for patients.
* Serve as a key member of the inter‑disciplinary infection prevention & control team, providing specialist infection control advice to all health‑care staff.
* Support and provide specialist experience to all healthcare staff, working closely with the Hospital IPC team and microbiology.
* Carry out responsibilities in a progressive and changing service that meets international and national standards.
* Offer specialist infection control advice, support and expertise to the multidisciplinary team, working in partnership with IPC personnel.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered nurse/midwife on the active register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, or eligible to be registered.
* Registered in the division(s) of the Board for which the application is being made.
* Minimum 1 year post‑registration full‑time experience in the relevant division.
* Minimum 1 year experience or aggregate of 1 year full‑time experience in the specialist area of Clinical Nurse Specialist – Infection Prevention & Control.
* Successfully completed a post‑registration programme of study at Level 9 or higher (TFD equivalent to 60 ECTS), or equivalent evidence.
* Demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area.
* Ability to practice safely and effectively within scope of practice.
* Maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the register.
* Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE via the Annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate.
