Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Galway, Ireland
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will design, develop, and integrate complex electrical systems for innovative Cardiac Ablation Solutions products. This role offers the opportunity to lead challenging projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute directly to life-changing technologies. You will collaborate cross-functionally with teams in mechanical engineering, software development, quality assurance, and manufacturing to drive projects from concept through to production.
Overview
* Lead or contribute to the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and circuits for medical devices, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., IEC 60601).
* Plan and manage technical projects, define deliverables, establish timelines, and identify and mitigate risks.
* Develop detailed specifications, schematics, and PCB layouts in collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet design and performance goals.
* Perform system-level integration of hardware, firmware, and software components.
* Conduct risk assessments and root cause investigations for electrical issues, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
* Manage product changes and associated documentation, ensuring all specifications, drawings, and BOMs remain accurate and current.
* Collaborate with reliability and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for scalability, performance, and cost efficiency.
* Support verification and validation activities to ensure product safety, compliance, and efficacy.
* Design, develop, and qualify test systems for both product-level and PCB-level verification and safety testing.
* Investigate and analyze field-returned products, identifying and resolving root causes of failures.
* Support and manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) processes and issue resolution.
* Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving support to manufacturing teams and key suppliers to enhance yields, maintain process capability, and reduce costs.
* Support internal and external regulatory and quality audits.
* Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a high-performing, innovative engineering culture.
* Stay current with advancements in electrical engineering, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
Key Skills & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 4 years of electrical design experience, or advanced degree with at least 2 years of experience.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
* Experience in the medical device or other highly regulated industries.
* Expertise in analog, digital, high-voltage, or RF circuit design.
* Strong understanding of EMC design and testing per IEC 60601.
* System-level integration experience involving hardware and firmware.
* Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and debugging PCB assemblies.
* Experience developing hardware test systems for design verification or production testing.
* Proven ability to author technical documentation such as specifications and test plans.
* Familiarity with analysis, simulation, and CAD tools (e.g., Minitab, MATLAB, SPICE, Altium, Cadence).
* Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
* Understanding of Six Sigma, Lean, or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
