The team operates with a startup-like culture while delivering hyperscale infrastructure developed through open-source contributions for eBay. As aSoftware Engineering Intern(Cloud DB & Storage), you'll collaborate with engineering teams in Dublin, the US, and China to design and develop features, prototypes, and benchmarks that advance our cloud database and storage capabilities.What You Will AccomplishContribute to designing and building features, prototypes, proofs of concept, or benchmarks for eBay's next-gen distributed database platform.Apply academic research and engineering principles to enhance scalability, performance, consistency, and multi-region availability.Work with global teammates from ideation through design, implementation, and testing, with potential for production readiness.Implement features using open-source and cloud-native technologies with a strong focus on automation and quality.Explore innovative approaches, share ideas, and integrate feedback to deliver impactful engineering outcomes.Strengthen system reliability by applying guidelines across the software development lifecycle.What You Will BringProficiency in object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.Experience with languages such as C++, Java, Python, Scala, JavaScript, and scripting skills like Bash.Understanding of distributed systems, database internals, cloud infrastructure, and Linux systems.Ability to build or contribute to scalable, fault-tolerant, high-performance systems in distributed environments.Hands-on experience from academic, personal, or prior work projects involving software design and problem-solving.Strong communication skills and comfort working in Agile or interactive development environments, with interest in full stack development a plus.Please see the Talent Privacy Notice for information regarding how eBay handles your personal data collected when you use the eBay Careers website or apply for a job with eBay.eBay is an equal opportunity employer.
