Job Overview
As a key member of our Manufacturing team at Natus, the Manufacturing Sustaining Engineer will lead sustaining engineering activities and continuous improvement initiatives that support the long-term performance, quality, and reliability of Natus Neuro’s product portfolio.
In this role, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for all manufacturing‑related product issues, ensuring smooth production operations and providing expert guidance on product changes, enhancements, and lifecycle extensions.
You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams—including Product Development, Quality, Field Service, Supply Chain, and Operations—to resolve issues, drive improvements, and deliver high‑quality products to customers. This role requires strong organizational skills, technical depth, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
What You’ll Do
Act as the technical escalation point for product- and design‑related manufacturing issues affecting released products and components.
Lead root cause analyses and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) using structured problem‑solving tools such as DMAIC, FMEA, Ishikawa, and 5‑Whys.
Manage and implement product and process changes, ensuring proper validation, documentation, and cross‑functional alignment.
Track and prioritize sustaining engineering activities, monitoring key performance indicators and driving timely issue resolution.
Provide technical oversight to prevent or address production disruptions related to suppliers, processes, or quality concerns.
Lead continuous improvement and value engineering initiatives to improve product quality, increase manufacturing yield, reduce variability, and lower cost of goods.
Support component obsolescence management, evaluating alternatives and ensuring uninterrupted production.
Maintain compliance with product safety and regulatory standards (e.g., REACH, ROHS, CE).
Manage Engineering Change Orders, ensuring full documentation and alignment across impacted teams.
Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) input for new product development to ensure efficient and scalable production.
Produce and maintain medical device design documentation aligned with FDA design controls, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 requirements.
Maintain accurate and controlled documentation, including BOMs, drawings, dFMEAs, pFMEAs, work instructions, and manufacturing procedures.
Travel up to 15%, domestically or internationally, based on business needs.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
4+ years of sustaining or process engineering experience, ideally within the medical device sector or electro‑mechanical manufacturing.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, root cause analysis, and production troubleshooting.
Demonstrated project management and organizational capabilities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across global teams.
Self‑motivated, independent problem‑solver with strong attention to detail.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
