Speech & Language Therapist Donegal Services Co Donegal Ireland Permanent, 19.5 hours Job Purpose The Speech and Language Therapist will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and/or adults with intellectual, physical, and sensory disabilities who present with a wide range of communication and/or swallowing difficulties. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Speech and Language Therapist will support service users to develop communication, interaction, and safe swallowing skills to enhance quality of life and participation in daily activities. Clients of the AspectRehab Care Donegal Service are over 18 years of age, finished in second level education, and have a primary diagnosis of of intellectual disability, other diagnosis' including Autism, Physical and Sensory Disabilities, and associated clinical support needs Asperger Syndrome (A.S.)/ ASD Non-ID. S/he will achieve this through the implementation of an accessible, equitable, person-centered service. The person appointed to this post will work within the Rehab Care Donegal Service, working as part of multi-disciplinary team delivering a coordinated approach to client support and intervention. S/he will provide Speech and Language Therapy intervention to Rehab Care Donegal clients through an internal referral process and will also be required to work as a Key Worker for individual clients, where necessary, as agreed with the Community Services Manager/Regional Manager of the Service. This includes responsibility for developing, planning, implementing, and reviewing support/intervention programmes for clients according to service standards. Minimum Education & Skills required * Essential Must hold a qualification recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU * Essential A minimum of one years' experience working in the field of disability, education or training. * An understanding of the principles of empowerment and person centred planning. Skilled in the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)* systems, including low-tech supports (visual aids, communication boards) and high-tech devices. Job Duties & Responsibilities Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and review of treatment / intervention programmes for clients according to professional standards. Document* all assessments, intervention plans, progress notes, intervention decisions made, reports and referrals in accordance with Rehab Care Donegal Service and professional standards. This includes written and verbal collaboration with Rehab Care Donegal team and clients. To manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post, including case prioritization and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. This to be done in line with the service requirements, including advocating on behalf of clients and their family where appropriate. Collaborate* with clients, their support networks, and other members of the Rehab Care Donegal Team in support/intervention planning, and provision of support & advice. To play* a supporting role in the effective relationship and interaction with the service's key stakeholders, particularly with the Rehab Care Donegal Team, clients and their support networks, training agencies, educational institutions, medical professionals, housing agencies, employment services, and the HSE.
