Pharmacy technician - Maternity Leave cover
Full time | Maternity contract
Location: Cork, Ireland
Responsibilities
Assist pharmacists in safely and accurately dispensing medications to inpatients, outpatients, and hospital departments.
Prepare, label, and distribute medications following hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Manage and maintain ward and pharmacy stock levels, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating medications.
Monitor medication expiry dates and ensure safe disposal of expired or damaged stock.
Prepare and supply intravenous (IV) medications, chemotherapy, and aseptic products where appropriately trained and authorized.
Maintain accurate medication records and update patient information on pharmacy information systems.
Assist in medication reconciliation by collecting and documenting patients' medication histories.
Support operation of automated dispensing cabinets and medication distribution systems.
Process prescriptions and medication orders accurately and efficiently.
Participate in controlled drug management, including stock checks, record keeping, and compliance monitoring.
Requirements
Hold a Pharmacy Technician Certification or an equivalent recognized qualification.
Previous experience working in a pharmacy setting is required; hospital pharmacy experience is advantageous.
Demonstrate good knowledge of prescription medications, their indications, and safe handling procedures.
Experience in inventory control, stock management, and medication storage practices.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in medication dispensing and prescription preparation.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and use initiative when required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Well-developed organizational and time‑management skills, prioritizing workload and meeting tight deadlines.
Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and service requirements.
Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and using pharmacy information systems.
