Afterschool Worker — 20 hours per week


Location: Northside Family Resource Centre

Contract:Part-time (20 hours per week)

Reports to:Afterschool and Youth Coordinator

Summary:The Afterschool Worker supports delivery of a high-quality afterschool programme that places the child at the centre. Working under the direction of the Afterschool and Youth Coordinator, the afterschool worker will contribute to the daily care, learning and wellbeing of children attending the service.

Key responsibilities

Childcare and programme delivery

* Supervise and care for children during afterschool sessions, ensuring their emotional, social and physical needs are met.
* Implement planned activities and play-based learning that support children's development.
* Adapt activities to suit individual and group needs and use initiative to refresh resources and ideas.

Direct work with children

* Build positive, respectful relationships with children and use behaviour guidance strategies in line with centre policies.
* Support children's social and emotional development through age-appropriate games, arts, crafts and conversation.

Partnership with families

* Communicate courteously and professionally with parents and carers at handover times and when requested by the Coordinator.
* Share relevant information about children's activities and general programme events with parents.

Health, safety and environment

* Maintain high standards of health, hygiene and safety in all activities and shared spaces.
* Keep equipment and resources in good condition and report any maintenance or replacement needs to the Coordinator.
* Follow centre procedures for first aid, accidents, sickness and medication reporting.

Policies, safeguarding and record-keeping

* Work in accordance with all childcare, safeguarding and centre policies and immediately report any child protection concerns to the designated Child Protection lead.
* Complete required daily registers, attendance records and other routine logs accurately and on time.
* Ensure volunteers, students or visitors in the room are made aware of and follow relevant policies while present.

Team participation and professional development

* Contribute positively as a member of the staff team and support smooth daily running of sessions.
* Attend staff meetings, training and development sessions as requested.
* Identify own learning needs and participate in training relevant to the role.

Person specification

Essential

* Experience working with children in an organised childcare, school or community setting.
* Good understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities.
* Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction from the Afterschool and Youth Coordinator.
* Strong communication skills with children, parents and colleagues.

Desirable

* Relevant childcare, community youth or early years qualification.
* First aid training or willingness to complete a paediatric first aid course.

Working conditions and additional information

Accountability

The Afterschool Worker is an employee of the Board of Management of Northside Family Resource Centre.

The Afterschool Worker reports to the Team Leader and Coordinator on a daily basis. Final responsibility rests with the Board of Management through the CEO.

This is a part-time role of 20 hours per week. Typical hours will be during afternoons with exact schedule agreed with the Coordinator. The Afterschool Worker will be expected to be flexible about morning, evening and weekend work for which overtime will not be paid but time-off-in-lieu will be granted. The contract offered is permanent following successful completion of the probationary period. A six-month probationary period will apply. This role is subject to continued funding.

Confidentiality

The Afterschool Worker will be expected to observe confidentiality at all times in relation to the business of the Family Resource Centre.

Holidays

Twenty-five days per annum pro rata plus public holidays and two Company Days.

Garda Vetting

In accordance with The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts

2012 to 2016, E-vetting will be a requirement for the successful candidate.
