Role Overview
As an Automation Engineer, you’ll help design, implement, and optimize cutting-edge automation systems that support efficient manufacturing and compliance with industry standards. You’ll work cross-functionally to deliver impactful projects that enhance productivity and ensure the continued excellence of Abbott Nutrition’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
* System Design & Optimization
o Design and develop automation solutions to increase efficiency and support production goals
o Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for proposed systems
o Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of automation equipment and software
* Project Collaboration & Planning
o Partner with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define project scope and objectives
o Develop detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource needs
* Operational Technology & Support
o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to automation equipment, software, and networked systems
o Ensure automation systems comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal policies
o Maintain and support SCADA, Siemens PLCs, and OSIsoft Pi systems
* Training, Documentation & Compliance
o Provide training and support for end-users on system operation and maintenance
o Create and maintain user manuals, maintenance protocols, and project reports
o Stay current with evolving technologies and apply best practices across automation disciplines
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
* Minimum 2+ years of experience in automation or control systems, ideally in manufacturing or regulated industries
* Familiarity with FDA cGxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and GAMP software validation is desirable
* Knowledge of standards such as ANSI/ISA-S88, S95, PackML is advantageous
* Exposure to Siemens PLCs, SCADA, and data historian systems preferred
