WHC Lab is a fast-growing biotechnology company specializing in fermentation. With innovation and quality at our core, we are expanding our operations and looking for a dedicated Fermentation Manager to lead and optimize our R&D production hall at our facility.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Fermentation Manager to oversee and enhance the day-to-day operations of our fermentation plant. This hands-on leadership role will focus on optimizing microbial production processes, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance. You will work cross-functionally with Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and planning teams to drive performance and support WHC Lab’s growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all aspects of fermentation operations, from raw material handling to downstream processing and packaging.
* Develop, implement, and refine fermentation protocols to maximize yield, efficiency, and product quality.
* Ensure robust production planning and scheduling to meet demand while optimizing resource usage.
* Manage and mentor a team of operators and supervisors, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Own the site’s operational performance KPIs—safety, quality, output, cost, and delivery.
* Collaborate with R&D and Engineering on process improvements, scale-up activities, and new product introductions.
* Ensure full compliance with industry regulations (HSE, ISO, FDA) and lead audit readiness activities.
* Oversee operational budgets, cost controls, and performance projections for the fermentation unit.
* Drive operational excellence through Lean principles, data-driven decision-making, and proactive issue resolution.
* Act as a key stakeholder in site expansion, equipment upgrades, and facility projects.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in fermentation, biotechnology, food, beverage, or pharmaceutical production, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
* Strong understanding of microbial fermentation processes and bioprocessing equipment.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing production teams.
* Proven experience with GMP, HACCP, ISO, or equivalent quality and safety systems.
* Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization.
* Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment with a proactive and hands-on approach.
