Responsibilities
* The Cheesemonger is responsible for cheese and other food and non-food item sales at the counter and concession walls.
* Caring for cheese to ensure it is sold in its best condition and maintaining thorough knowledge of all products and services, including the product story, pairing ideas, and the ability to explain flavours.
* Cleaning the counters, storage areas and fridges; daily maintenance of the counter.
* Providing customer service and making sales in a fast-paced environment; maintaining Sheridans Cheesemongers’ high standard of personal service and promoting local producers and culture.
* Learn about and educate customers about Sheridans Cheesemonger’s products, and Irish & European artisan cheese and food producers.
* Be familiar with current products in range; knowledge of dairy, deli, and ambient categories.
* Assist customers with queries, use of the Sheridans website, and product deliveries/storage organization.
* Describe tastes, flavours, textures, and pairings with cheese and other foods; maintain signs and displays; merchandise the retail space.
* Maintain food safety standards; participate in HACCP documentation; understand allergens and navigate the Allergen Book.
* Prepare and display cheese as instructed by team Leaders or managers; maintain stock levels and date rotation; stocktake as needed.
* Ability to read Daily Handover Book and report issues to Team Leaders or Retail Managers.
* Work with the team to ensure products are sold before expiration; collect and remove rubbish and recycling as required; perform other ad hoc duties.
* Daily counter maintenance, including keeping displays full and organized throughout the day.
Qualifications/Experience
* At least a year of experience in a similar retail setting or with a similar company is preferable but not essential.
* Excellent knowledge of Irish and European farmhouse cheese.
* HACCP training or awareness of HACCP/Food Safety in retail.
* Interest in cheese and other local, artisan foods; self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
* Strong conversation and listening skills; outgoing, cheerful, friendly personality; passion for great customer service.
* Organised and calm under pressure.
* Full-time: available 5 over 7 days including weekends.
Reporting to: Team Leader and Retail Manager. Working with: Cheesemongers and Team Leader(s). Manage/Supervise: n/a.
