Director - Centre of Nurse Education Permanent Contract, Full Time Hours.
The post holder reports to the Director of Nursing (DON) of Mercy University Hospital (MUH) and operationally links to the Director of the Nursing and Midwifery Practice and Development Unit.
Purpose of Post: The role of the Director - Centre of Nurse Education (CNE) is to develop and manage a centre of education that will provide accessible high-quality training, education and development to nurses and midwives and healthcare support staff within the centres remit.
The Director of the CNE is required to perform at a senior leadership and management level.
The Director will work closely with Directors of Nursing/Midwifery and other senior managers regionally and nationally and with the Centres Board of Management in order to plan, develop, co-ordinate, procure, provide and evaluate high quality education and training to meet the required needs of the nurses and midwives and healthcare support staff within the centres remit.
Responsibilities Include: Manage the functions of the CNE Cork though effective collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, for example Directors of NMPD; Directors of Nursing; the ONMSD; the CNE Board of Management; HR Leadership, Education and Development; the Library & Information Service; the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI); the Office of the Chief Nursing Officer in the Department of Health; Quality and Qualifications Ireland; Third Level Institutions etc.
Promote a culture of quality enhancement and continuous improvement in the provision of education and training programmes.
Support the implementation of the strategic vision and direction for nursing in MUH.
Support nursing staff in MUH and nurses and healthcare support staff within the centres remit through the provision of high-quality training and education programmes.
Manage and lead the tutors, specialist coordinators, clerical staff and others assigned to the education centre including Professional Development Plans (PDPs).
Ensure achievement of annual objectives.
Liaise and cooperate with the Nurse Practice Development Unit in MUH.
Advise the DON (MUH) on all issues relating to staff development and professional practice requirements.
Advise the DON and Midwifery Planning and Development Unit and other relevant stakeholders on matters related to education, training and development within regional remit.
Demonstrates knowledge of emerging professional developments in nursing and the wider health service.
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the organisation and management of continuing education and professional development activities in nursing.
Eligibility Criteria - Candidates for appointment must: Be registered on the Register of Nurses and Midwives with the NMBI or entitled to be so registered.
Be registered as a Registered Nurse Tutor with the NMBI or entitled to be so registered.
Have a minimum of ten years satisfactory post registration clinical and/or experience in education and training with a minimum of three years relevant experience in education and training at the closing date for receipt of applications for the post.
Possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the office.
