The Red Hat Cost Management team is building a new sub-team to create a deployable, on-premise product version of our service. We are looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to implement the core productization and data persistence features.You will focus on adapting the existing Python/Django codebase to run efficiently within a customer's cluster and ensure the new PostgreSQL-centric data model is robust and performant. This role requires strong development skills paired with a solid understanding of database optimization and cloud-native deployment using Kubernetes/OpenShift tooling.You will be responsible for tackling complex technical challenges and delivering reliable, high-quality code necessary to launch this new product offering.What you will doImplement and optimize the data access layer within the Python/Django application, ensuring maximum performance with the on-prem PostgreSQL database.Develop, test, and maintain the deployment artifacts for the product, primarily focusing on Helm charts and/or Operator components for provisioning and managing the application stack within OpenShift/Kubernetes.Write high-quality, maintainable code to refactor and adapt the existing SaaS application logic, removing dependencies on cloud-specific services and integrating seamlessly with the self-managed architecture.Help design and implement robust unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for the on-prem deployment process and core features.Utilize and contribute to the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for building and validating container images and release bundles.Work closely with the Product managers, Product Owners, and other engineers to translate architectural designs into reliable code deliverables.Assist in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to the on-prem product's deployment, performance, and PostgreSQL interactions.What you will bring5+ years of experience developing production applications with Python/Django and managing asynchronous tasks with Celery.3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migration management, and SQL query optimization for performance.2+ years of experience working with containers (Docker/Podman) and Kubernetes/OpenShift, including a practical understanding of Helm charts or Operators.Proven experience implementing microservices and integration design patterns to build scalable, decoupled systems.3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, GitHub Actions) and Git-based workflows within an Agile team environment.Preferred PlusExperience adapting SaaS applications for on-premise, air-gapped, or highly constrained environments.Experience writing custom Helm charts or contributing to Kubernetes Operators using Go or Java.Deep knowledge of relational database internals and a track record of solving complex performance tuning challenges.Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Sourcery) to accelerate delivery and code quality.About Red HatRed Hat is the world's leading provider of enterprise open source software solutions, using a community-powered approach to deliver high-performing Linux, cloud, container, and Kubernetes technologies.
