Overview
UPMC Whitfield Hospital are recruiting a Staff Nurse Orthopaedics on an 11-month fixed term contract.
Responsibilities
Work as a member of a team of nurses providing high quality, patient-centred care for patients and their families.
Develop and maintain good relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Work closely with nursing colleagues, developing innovative practice within the unit delivering evidence-based care.
Develop specialist knowledge of nursing practice relating to the clinical area.
Deliver the highest possible standard of care to all patients and act as patient advocate when required.
Act as preceptor to preregistration students and mentor new clinical staff and new non-clinical staff; support and guide colleagues when needed.
Liaise with link lecturers from affiliated nurse education departments to develop and maintain UPMC Whitfield as a recognised learning environment for student nurses.
Maintain effective communication and interpersonal relationships with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure good teamwork and collaborative practices.
Support the unit manager by meeting agreed responsibilities and participating in unit and hospital projects and accreditation activities.
Identify nursing/patient needs with consultants, nursing and multidisciplinary teams, patients and carers; accept responsibility and accountability for the care of a named group of patients on a shift basis.
Maintain high standards of patient care and patient safety; demonstrate a patient-centred approach and provide emotional and psychological support to patients.
Understand pre-assessment principles and maintain working knowledge of relevant professional guidelines and regulations; maintain own professional registration and comply with HR verification requirements.
Work within unit and hospital policies on risk reporting, occupational health, health and safety, and financial and budgetary controls.
Participate in quality, audit and research activities and support continuous improvement and accreditation processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Be a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Orthopaedic and/or general inpatient ward experience is essential.
Paediatric experience is desirable.
Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development (CPD).
