The Ireland Roads team is seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer with extensive postgraduate experience in drainage design for highways, active travel schemes, and other major civil engineering infrastructures. The team is growing and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate.
What you will do
Lead and help grow a team undertaking flood risk assessments and drainage designs for concept, preliminary and detailed design stages of major national roads, motorways and active travel schemes, including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Road Improvement Scheme, public transport schemes and active travel schemes for the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities.
Take on significant design elements with initiative, with some support from the senior specialist in the field.
Obtain and analyse information, report findings through effective communication of project proposals, assessments and intended outcomes.
Work as part of an integrated team to deliver high quality engineering services for clients.
Provide technical input to cross-sector multidisciplinary internal project teams supporting transportation, commercial/residential development and environmental infrastructure projects.
Prepare technical reports and effectively communicate outputs to clients.
Further develop and broaden the technical capacity of the flooding and drainage team.
Provide technical input on roads, public transport and active travel projects, including: road drainage systems and flood risk management measures designs, application of relevant standards, and securing requisite approvals and consents.
Demonstrate clear communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively; produce high quality technical reporting and reviews.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes.
What we will look for you to demonstrate
Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or an appropriate subject; a member of a professional institution.
Ability to work to tight project deadlines, handle pressure, and communicate effectively; good teamwork and liaison skills.
Education and experience requirements: a Civil Engineering degree (postgraduate Level 9 Masters advantageous); Incorporate/Chartered status or equivalent.
Experience in flood risk assessments and detailed design and delivery of surface water drainage systems for major national road projects and other major infrastructures.
Strong knowledge of drainage principles, SuDS, flood hydrology and hydraulic processes; familiarity with highway drainage standards and methodologies.
Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS; experience with drainage and flood modelling software (e.g., MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, InfoWorks ICM, FloodModeller, TuFlow, HEC-RAS 1D/2D, HEC-HMS).
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to liaise with clients and project stakeholders; delivery to high quality, on time and within budget.
Full, clean driver’s license.
