About the Role:
As a Hull Artificer (Carpenter) in the Irish Naval Service, you will:
1. Learn to manage, maintain, and crew the ship while ensuring its operational readiness.
2. Be trained to take on the responsibilities of a Hull Artificer at sea, contributing to the safety and maintenance of the fleet.
3. Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and structural integrity of the vessel's hull, fittings, and associated systems.
4. Play a key role in ensuring ships remain seaworthy and structurally sound, ensuring optimal operational effectiveness under all conditions.
5. Participate in emergency response situations, including firefighting and damage control duties.
Requirements:
6. Citizenship: Irish citizen or legally entitled to work in Ireland
7. Character & Fitness: Must meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards
8. Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 39 years of age on the date of application
9. Qualifications (or equivalent):HETAC Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Craft Technology (Wood) with businessNational Craft Certificate in Carpentry and JoineryNational Craft Certificate in Cabinet Making/Wood Manufacturing and FinishingNational Craft Certificate in ShipwrightOr national equivalents, subject to approval by the Naval Service
Recruitment Process:
Includes a fitness test, competency-based interview, medical exam, and Garda vetting
Location: All assessments conducted at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork
Salary & Benefits:
10. Basic Salary: €49, with yearly increments
11. Naval Service Allowance: Approx. €20, (tax-free)
12. Overseas Service Allowance: Starting at €15, per annum, in addition to your salary
