Senior Occupational Health Physician

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Occupational Health Physician to join our dynamic Occupational Health team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the health, safety, and wellbeing strategy within our organisation. You will provide expert medical advice, lead clinical governance activities, and contribute to the development of health risk management initiatives across a diverse workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide specialist occupational health consultations and clinical assessments for employees.
· Offer expert medical advice on fitness for work, return-to-work planning, and complex case management.
· Lead on complex clinical cases and advise on occupational health risk management
· Manage challenging stakeholder conversations involving risk tolerance, legal compliance, and operational pressures
· Lead on the development and implementation of evidence-based occupational health policies and procedures.
· Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including OH Nurses, technicians and the wider Optima Health team as well as external stakeholders
· Support and mentor junior clinicians, providing leadership in clinical governance and quality improvement.
· Contribute to health surveillance, medical assessments, and workplace assessments where required.
· Contribute to the development of occupational health policies, procedures, and clinical governance
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice, legal requirements, and emerging trends in occupational medicine
· Deliver evidence-based advice to management on health, wellbeing, and compliance with relevant legislation
· Support, mentor, and supervise junior physicians and other occupational health professionals
· Work collaboratively with HR, Health & Safety, and external stakeholders
· Participate in audit, quality improvement, and service development initiative
· Build and maintain strong, credible relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support effective occupational health decision-making
· Provide clear, balanced, and defensible medical advice on complex employee health issues, balancing organisational needs with employee wellbeing
Qualifications:
· Fully registered with the appropriate Professional Registration Body eg. Medical Council of Ireland/General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practise or eligibility for a licence to practice as a specialist in Occupational Medicine in Ireland
· Specialist qualification in Occupational Medicine (e.g., MFOM/FFOM or equivalent)
· Significant experience within the field of occupational health
· Strong knowledge of legislation and policy relevant to workplace health and safety.
· Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
