The Medical Council are looking to recruit a Corporate Governance Executive at Senior Executive Officer Grade. This role supports the effective management of the Council (otherwise known as a Board) appointed to oversee the strategic direction of the Medical Council.
Key Responsibilities:
* Report to the Head of Corporate Affairs on all matters pertaining to the work of the section.
* Co-ordination of the operations, meeting support and logistics management for all Council Governance meetings.
* Co-ordination of the operations, meeting support and logistics for any Council events including induction and training days.
* Overseeing and administering the Council member appointment processes to include elections, nomination processes, induction and training processes, terms of office and management of all documentary requirements associated with Council and in line with the Code of Practice for State Bodies
* Provide support and tracking across other Council Governance activities including external recruitment campaigns, Committee appointments, panel management and terms of reference, maintaining updates on website and Council resources area and management of all documentary requirements.
* Manage panels of committee members deemed eligible for appointment following a selection process, if casual vacancies arise, ensuring that any appointments are fulfilled in line with process, in a timely manner and that all records are kept up to date.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to progress and promote greater compliance with core governance principles.
* Develop and manage relationships with Council members, in particular the President and Vice-President and support a successful delivery of service to Council.
* Support and coordinate relevant governance activities such as ensuring compliance with statutory requirements such as the Code of Practise for the Governance of State Bodies, Medical Council Governance Framework documentation and Standing Orders, Ethics in Public Office returns and maintenance of the Register of Interests for Council Members and any other relevant legislative requirements.
* Identify and implement continuous business process improvements to support the delivery of business activities.
* Work closely with the reporting manager in delivering on a range of key activities including, business planning, risk management (to include identifying, assessing, monitoring and addressing risks), adherence to data protection / information governance requirements, annual and other reporting, corporate governance matters.
* Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Essential Criteria
* At least 2 years relevant company secretarial experience ideally in a similar role within a professional body, a health service provider or similar organisation.
* Experienced minute taker
Knowledge of governance protocols as they apply to State Boards.
Knowledge of conflict-of-interest protocols as they apply to State Boards.
Knowledge of the operation of cloud-based repositories for distributing meeting packs and minutes.
* Third level qualification or equivalent in a relevant area such as public administration or law.

Details of this Appointment:
Position Type:This appointment will be offered on a permanent basis, 6-month probation will apply.
Salary:Starting salary will be at €58,847 which is the first point of the Senior Executive Officer PayScale.
If you are currently a serving civil or public servant, your entry point to the PayScale may be higher based on your current salary.
There will be salary increment each year in line with the Senior Executive Officer Grade PayScale and subject to satisfactory performance, until the maximum point on the scale has been reached. The rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.

Annual Leave: 29 working days plus public holidays
Hours:35 hours per week, Mon-Fri.
Location:The Medical Council's offices are located at Kingram House, Kingram Place, Dublin 2. We operate a hybrid working model with both remote working and a current requirement for on-site attendance two days per week. This may be reviewed in time.
Pension:The Medical Council offers a pension through the Public Sector Scheme. Contributions to the scheme will commence on joining the organisation. Candidates currently working in the Public or Civil Service may transfer their pension.
