Data Platform Lead
a Priori is seeking a skilled Data Platform Lead to spearhead the development of a modern data pipeline for Business Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and proven experience managing software engineering teams, with a solid understanding of data quality and experience with major cloud platforms' data and AI offerings.
The successful candidate will lead and manage a team through design, development, and delivery of a modern data pipeline for BI and AI/ML. They will evaluate technical decisions to improve data processing, storage, and analytics capabilities, foster a high-performing team culture, and collaborate with product and engineering leaders to translate organizational goals into technical direction.
The Data Platform Lead will be responsible for effectively planning and overseeing data platform projects, managing team workload to ensure consistent delivery and achievement of targets, and communicating project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage a team of engineers through design, development, and delivery of a modern data pipeline for BI and AI/ML.
* Evaluate technical decisions to improve data processing, storage, and analytics capabilities.
* Foster a high-performing team culture through strong leadership and collaboration.
* Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to translate organizational goals into technical direction.
* Effectively plan and oversee data platform projects, managing team workload to ensure consistent delivery and achievement of targets.
Requirements:
* Proven ability to lead software engineering teams (people management and technical delivery).
* Proven experience in effectively allocating team resources, managing workloads, and coaching high-performing individual contributors.
* Experience with building data pipelines featuring modern tools such as dbt, Airflow/Temporal, Airbyte, Debezium, Kafka Connect.
* Strong proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
* Expertise with at least one modern data warehouse (Snowflake, Big Query, Redshift).
* Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, ISO 27001, etc.).
Bonus Skills/Abilities:
* Experience with traditional AI/ML and related cloud offerings (Tensor Flow/Google Vertex/Amazon Sagemaker).
* Experience with generative AI, leveraging 3rd-party LLMs to build platform/product capabilities.
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
