Consultant Psychiatrist – Psychiatry of Old Age
Whole‑time, permanent, pensionable contract on the HSE Dublin & Midlands Region Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023. Day place of work is Kildare West Wicklow with outpatient services based in Naas (Sarto Road Health Centre, soon Beech House) and inpatient duties at Lakeview Unit, Naas General Hospital. The role is 37 hours per week, with 30 working days annual leave.
Responsibilities
Manage a Community Mental Health service for older people in Kildare West Wicklow.
Provide specialist outpatient care in Naas (Sarto Road Health Centre, upcoming Beech House).
Attend inpatient duties at Lakeview Unit and Naas General Hospital.
Conduct domiciliary visits and visits to nursing homes.
Train and supervise non‑consultant hospital doctors.
Lead and develop a multidisciplinary community clinical team.
Participate in governance through the consultant group and relevant committees.
Cover the on‑call rota, providing service at nights and weekends (one in four).
Support the further development of the Older Adult Mental Health service, extending care to nursing homes and day hospitals.
Qualifications & Experience
Medical qualification; qualified as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
Specialisation or significant experience in Psychiatry of Later Life is highly desirable.
Experience working within a community‑based model of care and integrated clinical services.
Strong leadership, governance and staff development skills.
Contract Details
The annual salary will be as set out in the Medical Consultants Salary Scale from 1 February 2026. The standard working week is 37 hours per week.
Annual leave: 30 working days per annum.
