Trinity is Ireland’s leading university, ranked 87th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2024). Founded in 1592, it has a rich history and a reputation for excellence in education, research, and innovation. This research assistant role is within the Plant-Soil Function group at Trinity College Dublin (Botany Department), led by Dr. Richard Nair. The main responsibilities include contributing to a project on soil respiration, developing and maintaining custom and commercial instruments used in the field. The candidate will work with existing 'minirhizotron' instruments to image roots in situ, review and improve these setups, and develop new instruments for field use. Fieldwork will primarily be in Ireland, with potential opportunities abroad. The role may also involve developing dissemination strategies for the technology. The candidate will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team, and tasks may evolve over time.
