Senior Automation Systems Engineer

Role Brief
NNIT has an immediate requirement for a project with a Kilkenny‑based client that will focus on delivering new automation lines within a new manufacturing plant. The role covers systems design and hands‑on project lifecycle involvement, including installation, commissioning, FAT/SAT, and system development.
Responsibilities & Scope
* Lead and manage the installation and commissioning of automation lines.
* Coordinate FAT, SAT, and integration testing.
* Support in‑production controls, line controllers, MES systems, and databases.
* Handle new equipment introduction and system validation.
* Engage with stakeholders, manage client interactions, and communicate progress.
Skills Brief
* 5+ years in systems engineering for industrial automation, with independent task delivery.
* 3+ years in a GMP regulated environment (Pharma, Life Sciences, Biotech, or Medical Devices); only candidates with GMP experience will be considered.
* Expertise in Allen Bradley systems.
* Experience with FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ/PQ support.
* Knowledge of system and equipment validation requirements.
* Experience with Cognex vision systems.
* Experience supporting in‑production controls systems.
* Familiarity with line controllers, MES systems, and databases.
* Experience with new equipment introduction.
Person Brief
A relevant Bachelors or Masters level qualification in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, Systems Engineering or similar, with a minimum of 5 years post‑graduation experience in Controls, Automation or Systems Engineering. At least 3 years must be gained in a GMP regulated environment. Only candidates with GMP regulated industry experience will be considered.
The ideal candidate possesses strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, excels in client‑facing aspects, is an exceptional communicator, and demonstrates high project and organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Work Location
The role is fully onsite in Kilkenny; remote working is not possible.
