Overview of role:
The Radiology Department provides services to both Inpatients and Outpatients, including General Radiography, Theatre Imaging, Ultrasound, Cathlab, MRI, CT, and DEXA. The post holder will work within the Radiology Department and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality MRI services, leading, guiding, and supervising radiographic staff to manage the MRI service effectively. The role requires adaptability to a rapidly changing environment and willingness to undertake additional duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility and initiative.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical:
* Provide leadership to ensure an effective, efficient, and patient-centered MRI service.
* Perform general and complex MRI and radiographic procedures adhering to current legislation and professional standards.
* Organize and prioritize workload based on clinical needs.
* Manage the MRI service daily, ensuring optimal use of resources.
* Maintain quality standards, customer service, and technical excellence.
* Develop and implement operational policies, protocols, and guidelines.
* Advise on equipment selection, purchase, and upgrades.
* Prepare service plans, monitor their implementation, and maintain clinical data systems.
* Report operational issues to the Radiography Services Manager.
* Manage consumables efficiently.
* Assess patient suitability for I.V. injections and MRI safety for implants and foreign bodies.
* Implement ongoing MRI safety training for staff.
* Administer I.V. injections as per policy.
* Manage adverse reactions and incidents per hospital policy.
* Uphold patient confidentiality and respect cultural values.
* Monitor stock levels.
* Coordinate staff rotation and training, including Manual Handling and radiation safety.
* Be flexible to extend working hours as needed.
Quality & Audit:
* Participate in audits, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Conduct weekly team meetings and share updates via TEAMS.
* Maintain accurate clinical and equipment records.
* Engage with service improvement programs.
Health and Safety:
* Maintain safety standards, liaise with physicists, and develop safety procedures.
* Ensure staff training on safety protocols, including emergency responses.
Professional / Education:
* Maintain and develop professional skills.
* Participate in CPD, recruitment, and staff support activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree in Radiography or Diploma of The College of Radiographers.
* Registration with CORU.
* Minimum 5 years post-qualification MRI experience.
* Postgraduate MRI qualification recognized by IIRRT.
