Senior Wintel System Architect – Hybrid (Longford)

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated professional to lead the design, configuration, and support of complex server and systems infrastructure for a key Government client.
Location: Hybrid working model (minimum 1 day per week onsite in Longford)
Start Date: 13th October 2025
Contract Type: Fixed-term (Full-time)
Contract Duration: 24 months
Travel Requirement: Occasional travel to other sites required – candidates must have their own vehicle, a full clean driving license, and business-class insurance covering work-related travel
About the Role:
We are looking for an accomplished Wintel System Architect to join our government client’s technology team. This position demands a seasoned expert with over seven years of hands-on experience designing and managing extensive Windows-based IT infrastructures across multiple locations.
You will lead critical projects involving complex virtualization platforms and enterprise systems, ensuring high availability, security, and efficient performance. Your role will also involve overseeing the integration of diverse technologies, including email systems, storage solutions, and security frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the architecture, setup, and fine-tuning of Microsoft Server environments spanning several sites
* Design, implement, and maintain virtualization infrastructure including Hyper-V, VMware vSphere, and Citrix Hypervisor
* Manage deployment and support for Microsoft operating systems and associated deployment tools
* Provide expert support for email platforms such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, including archiving solutions
* Develop and maintain Citrix environments (CVAD, Storefront, PVS) and associated policies
* Oversee the integration and support of CCTV and body-worn camera systems, including video management software
* Architect enterprise storage and backup environments with tools like Rubrik, HP DataProtector, and Quest NetVault
* Mentor technical team members and act as the Windows team lead on emerging initiatives
* Collaborate closely with stakeholders to align IT architecture with business goals and compliance requirements
Essential Experience & Skills:
* Minimum 7 years’ experience in an IT infrastructure or architectural role focused on Windows environments
* Strong expertise in Active Directory and related services including ADFS, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, LAPS, OU structure, certificate management, and SharePoint administration
* Proficient in scripting and automation, especially PowerShell
* Deep knowledge of Microsoft Server OS versions (2012 R2 through 2022), Windows 10/11, MECM, GPOs
* Proven experience with virtualization platforms: Hyper-V (2016/2019), VMware vSphere/vCenter 8, Citrix Hypervisor (8.x)
* Experience managing email and messaging environments, including Microsoft Exchange (2013/2019), Lotus Domino, Commvault mail archiving, SMTP, and security tools such as TrendMicro ScanMail
* Familiarity with endpoint protection and security solutions like Trellix DLP/Move, Ivanti, Safenet two-factor authentication, MobileIron MDM
* Knowledge of enterprise storage technologies including Nimble, 3Par, HP MSA, Scality S3, Rubrik, HP DataProtector, Quest NetVault
* Experience supporting enterprise databases such as SQL Server (2014-2019) and Oracle DB on Windows, with additional familiarity with applications like Tableau, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite considered an advantage
* Networking and communication tool experience, including Brocade switches, Cisco Jabber, Netsupport, Dameware, PaperCut, PrintServer, GPO Printer Deployment
Preferred Attributes:
* Experience integrating multiple enterprise applications and services within complex IT ecosystems
* Strong understanding of backup and disaster recovery planning aligned with strict Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
* Familiarity with monitoring and management platforms such as ManageEngine, SolarWinds, and Softworks
* Demonstrated leadership ability to guide technical teams and foster collaboration across disciplines
* Excellent problem-solving skills, clear communication, and the ability to thrive both independently and as part of a team
Mandatory Qualifications:
* NFQ Level 8 Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline (proof required)
* Full, clean driving license and own transport with valid business-class insurance covering all contract-related travel (evidence required)
* Fluent English language skills, with certification at C2 level for non-native speakers (documentation required)
* Candidates must hold a valid Irish or EU passport, or equivalent work authorization permitting full employment in Ireland
Additional Information:
This role requires a commitment to hybrid working, with at least one day per week onsite at Longford. Occasional travel between sites will be necessary, and maintaining all relevant transport documentation throughout the contract is essential.
