Current Vacancies Chief Clinical Scientist Haematology Chief Clinical Scientist Microbiology About the Roles Both roles are pivotal in the delivery of high-quality, patient-focused diagnostic services. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and relevant Consultant specialists, these positions offer the opportunity to lead, develop, and shape laboratory services aligned with national and international best practices and standards, including ISO 15189. As a Chief Clinical Scientist, youll play a key leadership role in scientific operations, team development, quality management, service innovation, and strategic planning within your specialist area. Qualifications & Experience For both roles: BSc Degree (minimum QQI Level 8 or equivalent) in a relevant clinical science or laboratory medicine discipline. Minimum 5 years experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory, including at least 2 years at a senior level. Strong knowledge of ISO 15189 standards, laboratory management systems, and professional standards in laboratory medicine. Proven leadership, management, and professional competencies. Eligibility for CORU registration or international equivalent, and membership of ACSLM (for Microbiology post preferred). Additional Requirements: Haematology: Experience in blood sciences and leadership within a diagnostic haematology setting. Microbiology: Direct experience in clinical microbiology and managing a diagnostic microbiology service. Key Responsibilities Both positions involve: Leading and developing specialist diagnostic services. Supporting the implementation of operational processes and service developments. Maintaining professional standards and quality assurance aligned with ISO 15189. Providing scientific leadership, staff management, and training. Participating in clinical governance, audits, and continuous professional development. Maintaining strict patient confidentiality and ethical standards. Haematology-specific duties include: Collaborating closely with the Consultant Haematologist and clinical teams. Overseeing the provision of quality-focused blood sciences services. Involvement in research, equipment evaluation, and service costing. Microbiology-specific duties include: Managing day-to-day microbiology laboratory operations. Leading the introduction of new assays and technologies. Oversight of equipment/test validation and staff development. Deputising for Laboratory Management as required.
