My client provides electrical power engineering services to the industrial, electrical utilities and renewable energy sectors in Ireland and the UK. Specialising in MV and LV power requirements, their experienced electrical engineering and support teams ensure a seamless, responsive and professional service from system design right through to maintenance and support.
Responsibilities
Coordinating with clients, analysing design documentation and identifying scope gaps. Developing electrical plans and specifications for projects. Developing project scope, budget and providing technical submittal. Analysing customer's Single Line Diagram (SLD), Specification, BOM, Site Layout, Purchase Order, and other documents of the low‑voltage distribution system, switchboards (MDB / SDB) and DC systems.
Performing electrical calculations for electrical systems: load calculation, maximum predicted loading of an installation, Arc Flash and Short Circuit, Busbar sizing, busbar trucking, form of separation, degree of protection busbars compartments, clearance and creepage distances. Preparing the discrimination study report.
Providing allowable cross‑sectional area of circuit conductors, cable schedule and specification, preparing cable route, trench, and ladder layout and calculation. Performing design tasks including lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, and security systems. Preparing and modifying equipment specifications. Reviewing/ verifying switchboard configurations.
Preparing General Arrangement drawings, Single Line Diagrams, Panel layouts, Bill of Materials and Schematic Drawings for Switchboards / Distribution Boxes, Enclosures, and compartmentation. Providing drawings based on IEC, UL & CSA standards. Carrying out design work to create drawings for physical layouts and control/protection schematics as required.
Managing submittals through the approvals process, tracking procurement and delivery of electrical equipment and completing the receipt verification process. Sharing relevant technical inputs with purchasing, construction and commissioning teams. Developing procedures/standards for hand‑off to manufacturing operations for operating and maintaining systems, including standard work instructions, compliance control plans and standard O&M procedures/documentation.
Working with the project team to ensure progress is monitored and maintained in line with project timelines with communication to stakeholders. Reviewing electrical installation with operations team to ensure the design is constructible. Liaising with design team & supply chain during operation of project on site & successful handover.
Liaising with suppliers on specifications and components; complying with site safety, environmental rules and applicable legislation. Creating tender, design, construction and as‑built drawings to meet project timelines. Ensuring records are retained of design development, status & record control. Ensuring technical assessments, variations to the sales file are completed and changes are communicated and resolved.
Working with all departments within the company – Sales through to Commissioning and Communication will all be stakeholders. Keeping up-to-date documentation & good client contact.
Qualifications
Industry code understanding and familiarity with IEC standards including IEC 60364, IEC 61439, IEC 61140, 60479 series & IEC 61201. Familiarity with BS 7671, I.S. 1010, UL 508A.
Experience designing the low‑voltage distribution system, switchboards (MDB / SDB) and DC systems.
Experience with electrical design software EPLAN & ETAP. Experience with CAD design software AutoCAD. Proficiency in electrical design software including Siemens SIMARIS, Schneider EcoStruxure, ABB e‑Design or similar.
Good analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.
Permanent role. Based in Drogheda, Co. Louth. Competitive salary and package.
