Details about the broader Clinical Educator programme at RCSI can be found here The Department of Otolaryngology in RCSI and Beaumont Hospital is a mix of subspecialty ENT interests including lateral and anterior skull base surgery, rhinology, paediatrics, facial plastic and head and neck cancer surgery.
We are the national leaders in postgraduate ENT education, organising weekly national teaching lectures for our trainees, grand round video conferencing, and ENT surgical skills courses running all year round.
We also have ********* undergraduate students being taught every year by dedicated surgical and medical lecturers.
We offer essential surgical care for many of our allied specialties both in malignant tumour extirpation and benign disease of the head, neck and skull base.
Our departmental colleagues have leadership roles nationally and internationally in their respective fields namely lateral skull base surgery and head and neck cancer surgery.
There are an estimated 1.2 million people within our grouping with a wide variety of paediatric and adult otolaryngology needs.
We offer essential surgical care for many of our allied specialties both in malignant tumour extirpation and benign disease of the head, neck and skull base.

Objective: The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examinations of the undergraduate teaching program.
In addition, the successful candidate will participate in a growing clinical and translational research program in Otolaryngology Head (Full list of approved courses available from HR) • Refunds available up to €450 on passing approved examinations; • Benefit from up to 14 days Educational Leave to support participation on approved courses, exams or professional development activities • Clinical Lecturers and Tutors are eligible for the RCSI Staff Development Programme which provides funding for Masters Level programmes - MD / MCh / MSc.

Contract: This appointment is available for a period of one year initially, renewable to a maximum of two further years subject to satisfactory performance.
Salary: €45,000 per annum for Clinical Tutor or €55,000 per annum for Clinical.
Level of appointment will depend on the successful candidates' previous experience.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Contributing to the clinical teaching programme in the junior, intermediate and senior cycle of the four- and five-year teaching programmes • Contributing to the assessment of students in the junior, intermediate and senior cycles of the four and five-year programmes.
This includes development, delivery and evaluation of these activities • Liaising with heads of department, project leaders for clinical competence and other relevant faculty members in planning, delivering and evaluating teaching programmes • Providing resources and communication with student groups via the RCSI virtual learning environment • Delivering the curriculum at a number of sites e.g. assigned hospitals, RCSI Campus St Stephens Green, RCSI Sandyford Institute of Leadership Detail and commitment to be defined with relevant head of department • Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to • Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety • Representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI at all times • Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time Candidate Specification: Essential The successful candidate should: • Possess evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council • Possess a keen interest in lecturing and interacting with undergraduate students • Possess excellent communication skills Desirable It would be advantageous if the successful candidate had: • Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems • Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment • Previous experience in research • Completed at least 4 years of clinical experience post-internship • MRCPI / MRCSI or equivalent
