You have a strong understanding of data architecture – how data is captured, stored, transformed, and aggregated across systems – and you're eager to apply that knowledge in a validation context.
You're comfortable writing SQL, building queries against data warehouses, and validating data pipelines end to end.
You get energised by pulling apart how data flows through an organisation – lineage, aggregation logic, reconciliation controls – and identifying where things break.
You have a solid grounding in assurance or audit principles, and you apply that rigour to data and technology validation.
You can translate technical findings into clear, actionable issues and present them confidently to senior stakeholders.
Who We Are The Independent Validation Unit (IVU) sits within Risk Assurance Validation at AIB.
We are responsible for independently validating the Bank's risk data aggregation and risk reporting capabilities – a regulatory requirement under BCBS 239.
In practice, that means we go deep into the data: tracing figures back to source, stress-testing control frameworks, reviewing data quality rules, and assessing whether the information reaching senior management and the Board is accurate, timely, and reliable.
We are a small, specialist team with a growing mandate.
Our work spans data governance, data quality, IT infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and risk reporting.
We engage directly with senior stakeholders across the Bank and there are significant opportunities for exposure, development, and impact.
What You'll Do This role is focused on the technical side of our validation work.
You will be hands-on with data – querying systems, testing controls, tracing lineage, and validating outputs.
Specifically: Perform end-to-end data lineage reviews, tracing Key Business Elements (KBEs) and Critical Data Elements (CDEs) from source systems through aggregation layers to final reports.
Execute detailed data validation testing, including reperformance of calculations, reconciliation of data across systems, and assessment of manual adjustments and overrides.
Design and deliver data-driven testing approaches using SQL, Power BI, and other analytical tools to identify data quality issues and control gaps.
Contribute to the build-out of continuous monitoring capabilities – automated dashboards and data rule testing that extend our validation coverage beyond periodic reviews.
Assess the design and operating effectiveness of data quality controls, including automated rules, thresholds, and exception-handling processes.
Test and validate data infrastructure components such as data warehouses, Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, reporting platforms, and End User Computing (EUC) applications.
Prepare clear, well-evidenced review findings and contribute to final reports for senior management, the Board Risk Committee, and regulatory engagement.
Support the wider Risk Assurance Validation team, providing technical expertise on data and technology aspects of their reviews.
What You'll Bring Experience: Minimum 4 years in data analytics, data management, data engineering, or technology – ideally gained within financial services, audit, or compliance.
Experience in an assurance function is a strong advantage.
Technical skills: Strong proficiency in SQL and experience working with enterprise data platforms (e.g., Teradata, EDW environments, Ab Initio, QlikView).
Practical experience with Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
Exposure to data lineage, data warehousing concepts, and ETL processes.
Assurance mindset: Understanding of control and risk management methodologies.
Professional qualification in auditing or assurance (e.g., CISA, CRISC, IIA) or data management / regulatory compliance is preferred but not essential – what matters is your ability to apply structured, evidence-based assessment techniques.
Regulatory awareness: Familiarity with BCBS 239 principles, data governance frameworks, or banking regulatory requirements is a plus.
Communication: Ability to document technical findings clearly, present issues to non-technical stakeholders, and work collaboratively across teams.
Drive: Self-starter, proactive, excellent attention to detail, and comfortable working to deadlines in a dynamic environment.
