About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Trainee Data Analyst to join our team in our Athlone office. You will play a key role in processing raw data from various traffic monitoring technologies (such as ANPR, radar, video, and pneumatic tubes) into meaningful insights that support transport planning, infrastructure development, and operational decision‑making. Whilst some knowledge of the traffic survey industry would be an advantage, full training will be provided. This position could eventually develop into a project management role for the right candidate.

Nationwide Data Collection (NDC) offers unrivalled experience in all aspects of data collection for transportation planning, traffic engineering and market research. Our survey teams have undertaken extensive programmes of roadside interview surveys, manual, video and automatic traffic counts of every description. We have also undertaken intensive programmes of bus and rail passenger count & interview surveys plus vehicle registration surveys, journey time surveys and parking surveys. In addition to our office in Athlone, NDC has four regional offices in the UK and an office in the Netherlands.
Key Responsibilities
Process traffic and transport datasets from a variety of sources.
Check and upload video survey footage.
Analyse vehicle count, speed and journey time data.
Create reports and visualisations to communicate findings.
Work closely with survey teams and clients to interpret results and meet project objectives.
Conduct quality control on incoming and processed data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Provide support for bespoke analytical requests and modelling.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Proficiency in MS Office – particularly Excel and Word.
Strong analytical thinking with a problem‑solving mindset.
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple datasets and projects simultaneously.
Desirable Experience
Experience working with ANPR, radar, video analytics, or pneumatic survey data.
Familiarity with traffic data types and transport‑related metrics is a strong advantage.
Understanding of transport planning frameworks and local authority reporting requirements.
