renewable energy
developments and
peatland rehabilitation programmes
, driving best practice, cost‑effective solutions, and continuous improvement.
You will: -
Support Renewable Energy Planning & Design
* Conduct baseline ecological surveys on cutaway bogs.
* Identify ecological and environmental constraints to inform project design.
* Update site-specific rehabilitation plans for EIARs.
* Review design iterations, mitigation measures, and biodiversity enhancements.
* Manage ecological datasets and contribute to internal database development.
Deliver High‑Quality Environmental Assessments
* Support EIARs, AA Screening, and Natura Impact Statements.
* Liaise with third‑party ecological consultants.
* Engage with key external stakeholders.
* Review technical ecological reports and participate in project meetings.
* Oversee data accuracy and ongoing ecological data management.
Provide Ecology Expertise Across Project Lifecycles
* Contribute at feasibility, design, and delivery stages for renewable energy projects.
Advance Peatland Rehabilitation
* Develop and update EPA rehabilitation plans.
* Collaborate closely with NPWS staff and other stakeholders.
* Lead ecological monitoring, verification, and specialist surveys (habitat, bird, etc.).
* Carry out GIS mapping and ecological data analysis.
* Support statutory reporting (including AERs) and regulatory engagement.
Champion Biodiversity Initiatives
* Support delivery of the organisation's Biodiversity Action Plan.
* Engage internal teams to promote biodiversity goals.
* Identify new opportunities to improve biodiversity outcomes.
Stay Ahead of Policy & Legislation
* Track developments in ecology, planning, and environmental legislation.
* Ensure compliance and help guide strategic decision‑making.
* Maximise positive environmental impact across all workstreams.
Promote Safety & Compliance
* Work in line with all Health & Safety, Environmental, EU, and national requirements.
* Support performance management processes and team objectives.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience
* 10+ years' professional experience in Ireland – ideally from ecological consultancies or as a sole‑trader ecologist.
* Strong background working on
renewable energy projects
.
* Familiarity with ecological issues relating to renewables and the Irish planning system.
* Valuable peatland experience, especially peatland restoration and work involving sensitive species.
* Mandatory:
Proven experience delivering
EIAs
.
Technical Skills
* GIS capability and managing GIS data
* Manipulating maps & datasets
* Integrating survey data
* Ability to contribute strong technical ecological expertise to multidisciplinary teams.
