Offer description

Overview Shepherd is an early-stage startup building the future of legal tech.
M&A and corporate transactions are still slow, expensive, and opaque – we're changing that.
Our AI platform automates due diligence and turns risk into insight so deals close faster, smarter, and with greater certainty.
We're a team of dealmakers, technologists, and builders reimagining how business transactions happen.
By combining deep domain expertise with cutting-edge AI, we're eliminating the pain points that have plagued the industry for decades – making deals more transparent, efficient, and equitable.
Why Work With Us At Shepherd, you'll join an ambitious team bringing one of the oldest professional fields – law – into the modern era through automation.
Our founders together bring over 45 years of corporate M&A legal experience, deep AI research, and startup expertise.
One co-founder is an M&A partner at a leading law firm; the other founded Artomatix, one of the world's first generative AI companies (acquired by Unity Technologies in 2019 for $50 M).
The two have now teamed up to automate the very process that brought them together: corporate law.
Our MVP already automates the entire due diligence process – replacing the need for manual legal review – and is being used in live transactions.
As we expand, we're growing our engineering team to make our platform even more powerful and scalable.
If you thrive on solving complex problems, moving fast, and seeing your work drive real impact in a trillion-dollar industry ready for transformation – you'll feel at home here.
We value curiosity, integrity, and direct communication.
We're building a culture where great ideas rise quickly, where innovation and trust go hand in hand, and where every engineer helps shape the future of dealmaking.
The Role: Backend / Full Stack Cloud Engineer We're looking for an experienced engineer to help stabilize, scale, and evolve our core AI-driven software platform.
You'll play a key role in defining architecture, improving reliability, and ensuring that our product continues to deliver for clients in live deal flow.
This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI services while applying your expertise in cloud infrastructure, backend systems, and production-grade web development.
The work you do will directly shape how users experience our product – if you enjoy writing clean, production-quality code and taking responsibility for how it behaves in the real world, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Do This is an important role at an early-stage startup, so the right person will be comfortable wearing multiple hats.
You'll help deploy, secure, and monitor our services, as well as contribute new features.
You should be as comfortable reading code as writing it – unafraid to dive into complex systems and always eager to learn something new.
The ideal candidate will bring significant cloud experience they can leverage in this role.
Who You Are5+ years of software development experience using multiple languages (Python and Type Script preferred).5+ years of hands-on experience with major cloud providers (Azure preferred; AWS or others also welcome).
Experience debugging and maintaining complex systems.
Experience with multiple datastores (Postgres, Mongo, Redis, etc.).
Familiarity with observability frameworks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.).
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.).
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Git Hub Actions, Jenkins, etc.).
Exposure to security requirements and certifications (e.g.
SOC 2, ISO 27001).
Experience building or maintaining SPAs using frameworks such as React.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across time zones.
A passion for learning new technologies.
A track record of leaving systems in a better state than you found them.
BS degree or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
We believe great people build great companies.
That's why we offer a competitive, market-rate salary, meaningful early-stage equity, and a culture built on trust, autonomy, and shared ambition.
If you're ready to apply your skills to transform how deals get done – and to grow alongside a team that values integrity and innovation – come join us.
How to Apply To apply, send a short note about yourself and a link to your Git Hub, Linked In, or CV to the following address: jobs@shepherdtransactions.com.
We're more interested in how you think and what you've built than in formalities – we'd love to meet you.
