Merit Medical Ireland was incorporated in 1993. Based in Galway, it is a subsidiary of MMSI a Nasdaq quoted company.
Headquarters for Merits European Operations, our site operates an R&D to Manufacturing model with support functions on site. It also provides global support for Finance, HR, MIS & Regulatory Affairs.
The facility manufactures key products from Merits Global portfolio contributing to approx. 20% of Global Business. The core focus of Merit Ireland is the development and manufacture of Cardio Interventional devices.
Merits Corporate acquisition and new market penetration strategy has helped grow our products and provided opportunities to acquire new technologies.
As one of our Global three key centres of excellence, we hold responsibility for R&D, support and manufacturing ensuring a strong rooting in Ireland.
All products, currently manufactured on site, have been designed and developed by the Galway R&D team. Leveraging technology such a guidewires, micro assembly and performance coatings. We also develop new products and solutions that support all the Therapy Platforms across the corporation.
Industry Leadership & Product Innovation
The Galway site specializes in designing and manufacturing cardiology and peripheral access devices, navigation systems, and procedural kits. Their commitment to innovation and quality was recognized early when the facility was awarded Medtech Company of the Year. More recently, Merit Medical Galway earned the prestigious Best IDA Regional Investment Award in 2025, underscoring its continued growth, strategic development, and economic impact within the region.

Covering Design, Process Development, Project Management, Material Science and as well as Equipment development, it has grown to the largest R&D centre outside of corporate HQ.

Community & STEM Engagement
Merit has partnered with the University of Galway's Youth Academy since 2018, committing €250,000 over 6 years, now increasing to €500,000. The Academy offers STEM courses to students aged 9-12, expanding opportunities by providing 25% course placements on a scholarship basis. Merit Medical's involvement has positively impacted disadvantaged students and fostered community engagement through our involvement with the Galway Science & Technology Festival.
Additionally, Merit Medical supports local charities such as Galway Hospice, Pieta House, Bloodbike West, and Claddagh Watch Patrol, raising over €50,000 collectively.
