We are part of the Azure networking team responsible for designing, building and operating critical network services. Our team develops network security services such as Azure Firewall to enable enterprises to secure their workloads from internal and external threats. At the core of these services is a solid Software‑Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) infrastructure that we continuously innovate to improve agility, reliability and cost effectiveness of our services. Required/Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Golang, Rust, C++, C#, Java, or Python OR equivalent experience.
* Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
o Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Golang, Rust, C++, C#, Java, or Python OR equivalent experience.
* Experience with Kubernetes and wider Cloud‑native / Container ecosystem.
* Experience with L4‑L7 proxies (Nginx, Envoy, HAProxy).
* Contribution to open‑source software projects is a plus.

Responsibilities
* Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
* Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
* Create, implement, optimise, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
* Leverage subject‑matter expertise of product features and partner with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup’s project plans, release plans, and work items.
* Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiating actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
* Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
