Job Description
The role of Chief Medical Scientist Haematology is a senior position within our laboratory department. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the technical work carried out in the haematology section, ensuring that it is to the highest standard and meets patient needs.
Key responsibilities include:
* To perform duties under the direction of Consultant Haematologists and Laboratory Managers
* To ensure the technical work is of high quality and meets patient needs
* To provide guidance and support to medical scientists and laboratory assistants
* Participate in method selection, development, modification, validation, and verification
* Review, release, and report results
* Liaise with IT Systems Manager to ensure efficient use of systems
Other key responsibilities include monitoring internal and external quality assurance programmes, taking remedial action as required, and overseeing safety, health, and welfare of staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in haematology and experience in a similar leadership role.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The following skills and qualifications are required for this role:
* Statutory registration on the Medical Scientists Register
* Professional qualifications at NFQ Level 9 or equivalent
* At least seven years full-time clinical experience as a medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory
* Two years spent in a promotional post (e.g., Senior or Specialist)
* Continuous Professional Development
