As Ireland's largest freight and passenger port, we handle nearly 50% of national trade. Dublin Port operates in a highly competitive environment, providing essential national infrastructure as a Tier 1 port under National Ports Policy and part of the EU TEN-T Core Network.Located at the heart of Dublin City and connected to the national road and rail networks, we are central to Ireland's economic and logistical ecosystem. We are currently progressing our Masterplan towards 2040, with significant investment in infrastructure, sustainability, and digital transformation.With over 14,000 ship movements annually and approximately 4,000 pilotage operations, Dublin Port is Ireland's busiest and most important port. The Marine Pilot team consists of 12 professionals operating on a 24/7/365 basis. In line with succession and continuity planning, Dublin Port Company is seeking to recruit a Marine Pilot and to establish a panel for future vacancies.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute the safe and efficient pilotage of vessels ranging from- Undertake and complete the progressive, competency-based in-house pilotage training program.- Apply expert ship handling skills and demonstrate a deep understanding of bridge resource management and human factors.- Communicate clearly and professionally with Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), tugs, line handlers, and shipmasters.- Operate collaboratively within a wider integrated marine team (including VTS, tugs, marine operatives).- Provide professional input to the Harbour Master team on matters of navigational safety and port operations.- Participate in incident reviews, training audits, and simulation assessments as required.Key CompetenciesCommunication – Effective, concise, and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.Decision-Making – Sound judgement and analysis of dynamic operational factors under pressure.Team Integration – Ability to contribute to and support a multi-disciplinary marine operations team.Situational Awareness – Anticipates and identifies developing risks and reacts appropriately.Technical Proficiency – Strong ship handling, navigational, and operational planning skills.EssentialRole RequirementsSTCW Master II/2 Certificate of Competency (Unlimited) suitable for service in the Irish Mercantile Marine.ENG1 (or equivalent) medical certificate.DesirablePrevious command or ship handling experience.Familiarity with Irish pilotage and port operations environment.Computer literacy and competence with marine systemsPersonal QualitiesSolutions-oriented and self-directed.Organised with strong time management skills.Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and leadership.Committed to continuous improvement, safety, and excellence in maritime operations.Dublin Port Company is an equal opportunities employer.
