Senior Director, Research & Development, Infectious Disease (m/f/d)
The Infectious Disease (ID) business unit is part of Abbott Rapid Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.
The position is within our ID Business Unit and is a member of the R&D senior leadership team. Oversight and leadership over all of the division’s Lateral Flow R&D activities. Establish vision and strategy for the division’s platforms and execute upon strategy to support the division’s long-range plan and beyond.
Ensure a properly gaited product launch cadence so that products are developed and commercialized, including achievement of product claims and regulatory approvals, to drive increases in ID market share.
This position reports directly to the DVP, Global R&D, to ensure efficient and effective management of the R&D functions including P&L. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with global regulatory agencies and ensuring compliance with systems, procedures and ensuring management structures are in place to meet the goals in an ethical and legally compliant manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Lead a global Lateral Flow R&D team with a focus on product development processes, clinical program management, and leading teams to industry best practices.
* Demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills to influence stakeholders and peers.
* Ensure team meets deliverables on time, within scope, and budget, maintaining quality and accountability.
* Drive timely product launches that meet requirements and regulatory standards.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement and R&D excellence.
* Ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulations.
* Evaluate new technologies for potential acquisition or development.
* Collaborate with marketing to enhance product launches using clinical study data.
* Establish and execute vision and strategy for lateral flow technology, supporting long-term planning.
* Maintain key assay development knowledge and improve design control policies.
* Lead innovation initiatives to foster organic growth and new opportunities.
* Develop R&D goals, oversee multiple projects, and plan resource requirements.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
* Expertise in lateral flow technology including assay design and development.
* Understanding of the IVD market and regulatory environment.
* Bachelor's degree in biological or medical sciences; Master’s preferred.
* 12-15 years of R&D experience in medical diagnostics.
* Knowledge of design controls, QSR, and regulatory requirements.
* Familiarity with GCP standards for IVDs and biologics.
