Senior Mechanical Quantity Surveyor – Cork
DesignBuild Search is working closely with a leading Mechanical Contractor in Cork. Due to successfully securing new projects throughout Cork and the Munster region, they have an opening for an experienced Mechanical Quantity Surveyor. In this position you will look after schedule, valuations, variations and financial reports. This position offers structured career progression.

Minimum Requirements
* Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Quantity Surveying
* 5+ years Mechanical QS experience
* Ability to agree final accounts and negotiate with sub‑contractors
* Previous experience on pharma and industrial projects
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Analyse drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour costs versus estimates.
* Take off from drawings to create BOQ for projects.
* Perform all quantity surveying duties including measurements, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
* Demonstrate well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills.
* Be competent in measurement packages, Microsoft Excel and Word.
* Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction managers to discuss cost.
* Monitor costs from vendors or subcontractors, explore variances, manage issues with the manager, and handle cost overseas and recovery.
* Create cost reports on actual costs and examine estimates used by management for planning, organising and scheduling work.
* Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
* Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
* Create cash‑flow forecasts for projects.
* Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
* Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data for cost reduction.
* Travel to site throughout Ireland and the UK if required to attend site/client meetings.
* Actively promote and participate in improvement groups to improve quality, reduce costs, eliminate waste, and improve working methods, conditions and communications.
* Perform any other duties assigned by the Line Manager.
