Your Role
We are looking for a Lead Hydromorphologist / Geomorphologist to join our team and work at the forefront of managing the challenges of maintaining, creating or restoring water courses to achieve good ecological status, ensuring that their form and function is incorporated into and/or protected from new infrastructure development, as well as restored and recovered from previous interventions that may have physically degraded them.
With a degree in science, engineering or mathematics and ideally a post‑graduate qualification in geomorphology, fluvial geomorphology or hydromorphology, or a related subject.
Significant field and hands‑on practical experience of fluvial geomorphology, hydromorphological assessment of river channels and water courses.
Demonstrable experience as a fluvial geomorphologist or hydromorphologist, preferably but not necessarily within consultancy.
Experience with sediment dynamics, barrier removal or mitigation, natural flood management, nature restoration, channel creation, maintenance and management.
Knowledge and experience of Ireland and Irish hydromorphology, in particular systems that form part of the arterial drainage maintenance programme common in Ireland, and of the regulatory framework of Irish water management. Similar knowledge of the UK or EU European countries would also be of interest.
Experience of leading project tasks and possibly entire projects through problem definition, data collection, analysis, interpretation and drawing succinct conclusions and recommendations.
Ability to develop new and innovative approaches that will be advantageous.
Excellent numerical, analytical, report‑writing and presentation skills and an eye for detail.
Highly motivated and proactive, enjoying solving challenging water resources problems within a high‑achieving team environment.
Effective communication at all levels to support collaborative working and high‑quality client relationships.
Valid full, clean, driving license.
About You
Ability to survey, assess, appraise and report on the state of fluvial geomorphology / hydromorphology in water courses and water bodies.
Knowledge and understanding of key fluvial geomorphology / hydromorphology issues and their drivers in an Irish context.
Preferably, but not a requirement, experience of working for an environmental consultancy firm, or similar, including costing work, preparing technical and financial aspects of tenders, interpretation of data, reporting and communication.
