What you can expect in a typical day:
As a Process Technician you will play a key role in the operations of our Whitegate Refinery. All Process Technicians work on a continuous rotating shift basis and are required to respond to callouts on occasion.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance
* Follow all policies, procedures and regulatory requirements with regard to health, safety and environmental obligations
* Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
* Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents promptly.
* Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and emission control standards.
Operational Duties
* Perform routine operator tasks e.g. monitor levels, temperatures, and pressures within various units to ensure equipment is functioning at peak efficiency.
* Safely operate steam boilers, pumps, furnaces, compressors, exchangers, reactors, distillation columns, tankage, piping and associated equipment.
* Transfer crude oil from ships to storage tanks.
* Transfer finished petroleum products to and from ships and processing plant.
* Load and unload petroleum, chemical and LPG trucks.
* Optimize the processing equipment to achieve maximum value from the operation.
* Check the processing plant, piping, tankage and associated equipment for leaks and defects.
* Record/log operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook.
* Work in a control room environment and operate/interact with DCS (Distributed Control System).
* Assist senior technicians in complex tasks e.g. the planned shutdown or start-up of a unit.
* Work outdoors on Process Units, tank farm and marine terminal. Work includes manual handling activities, confined space entry, climbing tank stairs and vertical column ladders.
* Regularly monitor quality of finished products to ensure they meet the product quality specifications.
* Ensure isolation and de-energisation of equipment as required by permit to work.
* Monitor work activities under permit to ensure compliance with safety controls.
Team Collaboration
* Team player who can collaborate with others to achieve refinery targets and goals.
* Coordinate with maintenance, inspection, and engineering teams to support planned and unplanned work.
* Communicate effectively with shift team members and supervisors.
Education and experience
* Post leaving certificate education in Process Controls, Process Engineering, Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering, apprenticeship in a Trade or technical role.
* Preferably have experience and certification in process plant operation, oil processing, marine or allied continuous process industry.
* Possess a strong technical aptitude, an analytical mind, and the ability to work alone or in a team setting.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental requirements associated with the oil and gas or similar industry.
* Be comfortable working with all types of machinery.
