Offer description

Procurement and Sourcing Specialist I am currently recruiting on behalf of a client based in Cavan for an experienced Procurement and Sourcing Specialist to support the supply of critical materials used in the manufacture of oil-filled distribution transformers.
This role is responsible for defining and executing sourcing strategies that ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality supply of transformer-grade materials.
The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Procurement to support both immediate production needs and longer-term strategic objectives.
A key element of the role involves identifying future and alternative materials to support product innovation and more sustainable manufacturing, achieved through continuous monitoring of market trends and emerging suppliers.
Key Responsibilities: Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management Identify, assess, and qualify suppliers of transformer-specific materials and components, including electrical steel (GOES), copper and aluminium conductors, cores, coils, tap changers, bushings, insulation materials, gaskets, radiators, valves, hardware, and transformer oils.
Develop and implement category sourcing strategies to optimise total cost of ownership, ensure supply continuity, and reduce lead-time variability.
Manage supplier performance using KPIs such as on-time delivery, quality, and cost, while driving corrective actions and keeping procurement teams informed.
Conduct market intelligence, should-cost analysis, and benchmarking to support negotiations and cost-reduction initiatives.
Support long-term capacity planning with strategic suppliers aligned to production forecasts.
Mitigate supply risk through multi-sourcing strategies, buffer planning, and supplier development initiatives.
Procurement & Commercial Negotiation Lead negotiations on pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to secure competitive and sustainable supply agreements.
Monitor market movements (metals, commodities, freight) and support contract renegotiations as required.
Ensure sourcing documentation and contracts are accurate, compliant, and well maintained.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Engineering on new product introductions, material specifications, and supplier technical evaluations.
Work closely with Planning and Operations to align lead times, minimum order quantities, and supplier capabilities with S&OP requirements.
Collaborate with Quality on audits, NPNP processes, supplier change management, and non-conformance resolution.
Compliance & Risk Management Ensure sourcing activities comply with company policies, legal obligations, and industry regulations.
Maintain supplier compliance with applicable standards (IEEE, ISO, ASTM, UL) and internal requirements.
Proactively manage risks related to material shortages, geopolitical factors, logistics constraints, and transportation.
Maintain documentation to support audits, regulatory compliance, and sustainability initiatives.
Data Analysis & Reporting Analyse spend, cost drivers, supplier quotations, and total cost of ownership.
Develop and maintain sourcing dashboards and supplier scorecards covering savings, lead times, and performance.
Track commodity trends (steel, copper, oil, freight) and communicate impacts to senior stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills: Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related discipline.
Professional certifications (CPSM, CIPS, CPP) or training in sustainability and ethical sourcing are advantageous.
35+ years experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain roles, ideally within heavy manufacturing or the electrical sector.
Prior exposure to transformer materials and components is highly desirable.
Strong ERP experience (SAP preferred), with advanced spreadsheet and analytical capability.
Solid understanding of strategic sourcing tools (RFx, TCO, cost breakdowns, supplier evaluation).
Experience with supplier and contract management, forecasting, planning, and logistics.
Ability to analyse supplier performance against internal strategy and global indices.
Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
Able to work independently while contributing effectively in cross-functional teams.
Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel internationally as required.
Full, clean driving licence.
Comfortable working with technical terminology and specifications.
Genuine interest in understanding how sourced materials perform in application.
