We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Nurse to join our team in the Kilkenny/Carlow Children’s Service. Contract Type: 2 Year Contract. Contract Hours: 20 hours per week. Salary Scale: €34,492 to €50,362 pro rata per annum. Annual Leave Entitlement: 33 days pro rata per annum. This pay scale is subject to increases in 2025 in accordance with the WRC agreement for Section 39 organisations.
Overview Of The Post
The role is to work as a member of the team providing preschool and home support services within the Kilkenny/Carlow CHO5 area, in active partnership with and in line with the needs and wishes of each child and family.
Overview Of Duties & Responsibilities
* Create an environment that promotes each child’s participation in terms of choice and decision-making and enables each child to reach their highest level of independence.
* Provide leadership, supervision and support to all support staff in the provision of clinical and care support services across multiple locations.
* Identify and understand the health and medical needs of each child and ensure their needs are met appropriately.
* Coordinate, assess, plan, implement and review care for children according to service standards including TUSLA and HIQA regulations.
* In partnership with parents/carers/team, act as facilitator to foster links with the child’s future educators.
* Ensure the implementation of agreed programmes of care for each child, in ways that promote dignity and respect for the child.
* Provide support or mentorship to staff and students; identify training needs and deliver training to non-nursing staff as required.
* Ensure the care and hygiene of treatment rooms, bathrooms and toileting facilities are of the highest standards.
* Planning and management of bus routes and time schedules and act as bus escort in the transportation of the children where required.
* Work with individual children in a range of settings and take the lead in ensuring the safety of the children.
* Administer vaccination of service users and staff as required.
* Display appropriate sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.
* Demonstrate functional and technical knowledge to contribute credibly to the service; plan and organise activities and necessary resources efficiently and effectively.
* Understand time management for organising assigned caseload and manage unexpected scenarios with persistence and flexibility to achieve goals.
* Work in accordance with Enable Ireland’s Code of Practice, Guidelines for working with Services Users and other national policies and procedures.
* In consultation with the inter/multidisciplinary team, be responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of the programme of activity for each preschool child.
* Liaise with and organise Paediatric and Psychology Clinics as appropriate.
* Liaise with Health Care Professionals.
The successful candidate will have
Essential Criteria:
* A recognised validated University Degree or an equivalent qualification in Intellectual Disability/General or Children’s Nursing.
* Must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
* Be eligible to work in the State.
* A Full Driver’s Licence and access to their own transport.
Desirable Criteria:
* Commitment to working in partnership with parents/carers and children in a family-centred manner.
* Good knowledge of child protection and child development.
* Demonstrate understanding of residential respite and day services; understanding of HIQA standards.
* Experience of working with children with disability.
