Principal Ecologist

As a Senior Ecologist with significant experience, you will play a key role in our dynamic, close-knit team. Based in our Dublin Bay office, you will primarily manage and coordinate multiple road infrastructure projects, liaising with in‑house and external partners to deliver projects that protect and restore biodiversity.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the delivery of road infrastructure projects from Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) screening through to final reporting.
Design, commission and schedule multi‑disciplinary ecological surveys across Ireland, personally conducting surveys where necessary.
Supervise and manage in‑house ecologists and external sub‑contractors, ensuring safe, efficient and on‑time delivery within budget.
Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary design teams to provide appropriate ecological design solutions and advice.
Provide expert ecological advice and recommendations to clients, managing risks to project timescale or delivery.
Act as expert witness at oral hearings.
Liaise with clients, project managers and statutory bodies.
Line‑manage staff, conduct performance reviews and monitor performance against targets.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry changes, best practice, guidelines, legislation and policy, providing leadership to staff.
Support the Sales Team in preparing fee proposals and tenders.
Manage project finances, meeting profitability targets for individual projects.
Promote the business and maintain the company’s reputation and standards.
Report regularly to Directors on significant issues arising.
Qualifications / Training
An honours degree in ecology, natural science or a related biological discipline; a postgraduate degree highly desirable.
Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) at an appropriate level.
