NexVentur is seeking an experienced Surfacing Supervisor to join our clients' team in the West & Midlands, who are a well established Civil Engineering and Tarmacadam firm.
This pivotal role involves overseeing high-quality asphalt surfacing projects across the Midlands and Western regions of Ireland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading site crews, managing council
overlay contracts, and ensuring that all works are completed to the highest safety and
technical standards.
Role and responsibilities
Directly supervise surfacing crews and subcontractors on-site to ensure optimal productivity and quality.
Co-ordinate the daily delivery of materials (Asphalt, Bitmac, etc.) and plant machinery to various site locations.
Ensure all council overlay projects are executed according to local authority specifications and timelines.
Conduct site inductions, tool-box talks, and ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety regulations (HSA).
Liaise with local council engineers and private clients to manage expectations and resolve site-level issues promptly.
Monitor progress against project schedules and provide regular updates to the Contracts Manager.
Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, plant returns, and material dockets.
Manage site traffic management plans to ensure public and worker safety during road works.
Oversee the preparation of surfaces and the laying/compacting of asphalt materials to ensure compliance with technical drawings.
Identify and rectify any defects or non-conformances on-site immediately.
Skills and experience
Proven background in Tarmacadam/Asphalt surfacing with extensive knowledge of laying techniques and material properties.
3-5+ years in a supervisory or foreman role within civil engineering or road surfacing.
Specific experience managing local authority (Council) overlays and road restoration projects is essential.
Deep familiarity with the Midlands/West regions; project locations generally in the Roscommon/Longford/Leitrim/East Mayo regions.
Ability to manage, motivate, and mentor site crews.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for dealing with clients, engineers, and staff.
Exceptional logistics and planning skills to manage multiple moving parts on a busy site.
Hold a valid Safe Pass, CSR/CSCS cards, and a full clean driving licence.
