This role holder is required to plan, direct and supervise all nursing and care services, to the highest of standards within the Home.
The role of Director of Nursing is vital to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Nursing Homes.
Job Purpose: The primary role of the Director of Nursing is clinical and professional leadership in the day to day operations of The Nursing Home.
This includes ensuring the effective management of clinical care and support services provided within The Nursing Home.
As a key member of the senior management team, the role holder will demonstrate managerial and leadership skills and facilitate effective communications with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
The role will report to COO – Chief operations Officer/Director of the Company.
The role will work closely with Director of Clinical Governance and Register Provider Team to ensure the highest standard of the HIQA Compliance of the home.
The position requires a strategic approach to development of services within the Home, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.

About The Role Roles and responsibilities: Quality of Care Responsibilities To ensure the delivery of the highest standards of nursing and social care which meet the individual needs of each resident through implementation of:
The Company's Quality of Care System.
Clinical practice in the home meets Regulations & Standards.
Participating in creating resident care plans and ensuring they are followed.
Monitoring of clinical practice through individualised care plans for each resident.
Conducting internal audits and following up on results of same.
Encouragement of innovative practice.
Promote Silver Stream Group high quality and standards of persons- centred Residential care with sensitivity, compassion, respect and dignity.
Ensuring implementation and adherence to Company and HIQA standards, procedures and guidelines.
Quality Improvement and Risk Management · Ensure that there is compliance with all relevant Silver Stream Group guidelines, policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
This includes responsibility for dealing with regulatory or professional bodies and inspections (HIQA, EHO, HSE etc.)
· Encourage continuous review and evaluation of policies, guidelines and existing practices through regular audit programmes and review engaging with the multi-disciplinary team where required.
· Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement across the Nursing Home involving the team in continuous improvement initiatives and encouraging innovation.
· Contribute to the setting and monitoring of core objectives, standards and key performance indicators for the service and monitor performance against these standards through internal and (where applicable) external audits
· Participate in the requirements of Silver Stream Group/Nursing Home risk management programme.
· Develop a culture of safety, promoting positive reporting of incidents and near misses; investigate and take remedial action on incidents or near misses involving residents and staff according to Company policies, protocols and guidelines..
People Management · To actively participate in the recruitment process for all staff within the Nursing Home.
· Ensure all staff receive an adequate orientation and induction programme, have a clear understanding of their duties, responsibilities and standards of performance.
· In conjunction with the HR team, ensure staff training are compliance at all times.
· Conduct regular and additional training needs for staff in the nursing Home.

· To carry out performance appraisals of all nursing and care staff.
· Participate in nurse and care assistant training programmes and any other programmes pertaining to future development in the Nursing Home
· Keeps abreast of and anticipates staffing needs within departments.
· Ensure Attrition and Absenteeism rates are within or below the budget as main KPIs in people management.
· Clarifies individual roles, responsibilities and accountabilities.
· Ensure HR practices within the Home comply with all current employment legislation.
· Ensure all registered nurses employed in the Home are on the "live" NMBI Register.
· Provide leadership for the team and ensure an effective learning environment for the team and take an active part in service deliver as appropriate.
· Promote an environment that is conductive to the development of best practice, enhances staff retention and promotes good industrial relations.
· Maintain a high level of staff morale, promoting good communication, team spirit and job satisfaction among members of the multidisciplinary team.
Strive to ensure that all staff are accountable, responsible and have authority to practice and manage within their roles.
· Foster an environment which enhances the retention of staff.
• Adhere to Pre- Assessment and Admission Silver Stream Group Policy ensuring maximum of the beds are always occupied within the Home.
• Play a pivotal role in promoting the Home in the community and local hospitals along with the Group Relations Manager.
• Ensure business KPIs are met through tight operational management of the Home on a daily basis (Kitchen, maintenance, medical consumables, housekeeping etc.)
• Ensure the budgeted care ratio is always maintained by close management of rosters, dependency levels of residents and the number of occupied beds.
• Knowledge of residents' fee income, funding source, fee arrears, personal allowance and financial records.
• Management of the Nursing Home budget and responsibility for key financial indicators (Occupancy and Revenue, Staff Cost and other Operational expenditure).
• Understand legislative requirements regarding the financial affairs of mentally impaired people.
• Monitoring of administrative procedures
• Implement Company Health and Safety Policy to safeguard the safety and welfare of staff, residents, and others.
• Implement regular fire training and ensure all evacuation plans are up to date in conjunction with Estates and Engineering Manager.
• Ensure catering team members meets HACCP standards and is maintained to the highest quality & variety at all times.
• Ensure the hygiene and cleanliness of the home is to the highest standard in conjunction with the Facility Team.
• Ensure a preventative maintenance programme is in place and implement in conjunction with the Estate and Engineering Manager.

Qualification • Registered on the Live Register in the General Division of the Register of Nurses as maintained by the NMBI.
• Elderly Care Qualification
• Masters level Degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years elderly care experience, which should be at management level.
• Knowledge of the Nursing Home Industry.
• Have a full understanding of the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People.
• Have wide general nursing experience and proven leadership qualities.
• Have experience/ qualification in /Gerontology.
• Evidence of consistent updating of clinical skills and knowledge.
• Demonstrable coaching & development skills within clinical practice
• Competent and confident IT skills.
