Mechanical & Electrical Project Manager
on behalf of a leading semi-state organisation responsible for the development and operation of Ireland's largest freight and passenger port. Handling close to half of the nation's trade, this port is recognised as a Tier 1 facility under National Ports Policy and is part of the EU TEN-T Core Network.
Strategically located in the capital and directly connected to the national road and rail networks, the port is central to Ireland's economic and logistical ecosystem. With a Masterplan to 2040 already in motion, the organisation is undertaking significant investment in infrastructure, sustainability, and digital transformation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to play a key role in shaping and delivering critical infrastructure projects across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & control disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage mechanical and electrical capital projects on time and within budget, from scheme inception through to handover.
* Act as technical lead for M&E, energy, and instrumentation & control aspects within the PMO.
* Define project scope and deliverables in conjunction with the Project Sponsor.
* Assist in determining and securing appropriate resources (internal and external).
* Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks.
* Ensure robust project appraisal and evaluation at inception, giving senior management clear visibility of options and implications.
* Collaborate with diverse disciplines including civil, marine, cost management, architecture, transport, environmental, planning, and legal.
* Manage PMO staff, consultants, and contractors effectively.
* Work closely with the Cost Management team to implement best-value procurement and tendering strategies.
* Monitor and report progress across all project phases.
* Oversee project accounts, focusing on cost-to-completion and variance reporting.
* Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, planning, and regulatory standards.
* Support the Capital Programme Manager in developing future strategies, budgets, and plans.
* Contribute to lifecycle and O&M evaluations.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* BEng (Hons) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with relevant industry experience.
* Minimum of 8 years' experience managing large-scale engineering projects (€5m+), from inception to completion.
* Strong background in feasibility/evaluation studies and design development.
* Track record of appointing and managing consultants to deliver cost-effective solutions.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
* Proven client-facing skills and ability to translate requirements into deliverables.
* Skilled in risk evaluation and management.
* Strong stakeholder engagement experience (internal and external).
* Proficient in project controls and reporting.
* Contractor management experience with proven delivery on time and within budget.
* Excellent knowledge of engineering design principles and standards.
