We are PCI.The Senior Manager, Automation Engineering will support ongoing PCI operations engineering through technical assistance and management as it relates to Automation & Manufacturing Systems and Engineering. The incumbent must exhibit strong customer communication skills and have in-depth technical knowledge of process control systems and equipment used in Pharmaceutical packaging and utility systems.ResponsibilitiesLead and develop the automation group at PCI sites in collaboration with Engineering Management.Maintain, provide support, and update various system software on production lines, facilities, and systems as identified.Develop and maintain procedures and best practices for cost control, safety, capital projects, utilities, controls engineering throughout PCI automation and controls activities.Manage equipment, utilities controls network with the use of PLC, remote I/O, panel view, and servo motion.Translate business needs into automation processes by leveraging extensive experience within the automation controls team.Partner with operations, engineering, site leadership, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to plan and coordinate technology installations, upgrades, and overhauls.Review existing and new processes, and design systems to improve efficiencies, costs, and quality.Assist direct reports with employee development to help them achieve career goals.Oversee Automation Engineers and contractors at multiple sites.Prepare budgets for automation CAPEX spending and manage scope, schedule, and budget adherence.Participate in audits and inspections as an Engineering and Automation SME and support QA in regulatory responses.Maintain system/data integrity and identify performance and security improvements.Perform Data Integrity Risk Assessments (DIRA) and FMEA on new and existing systems.Administer system application, backups, and disaster recovery procedures.Investigate and troubleshoot complex technical problems.Lead the planning and execution of projects for infrastructure change, upgrades, and process improvements.Contribute to design of new applications and solutions, prepare user requirement specifications and change management.Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.Implement automation lifecycle strategy for continuous improvement, operational efficiencies, and reliability.Provide regulatory support and technical strategies during major authority interactions or inspections.Ensure safety practices are followed and report near misses to the EHS Department.Essential QualificationsBachelor’s or associate degree in Engineering or technical discipline (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, or similar) or equivalent experience.3‑5 years of experience in automation management and control systems.3‑5 years in a supervisory/people‑management role within GMP, biotechnology, or medical device environment.Proven experience in designing, building, deploying, and supporting execution systems in a regulated environment.Hands‑on programming and configuration of PLCs and SCADA, with at least 3 years of managerial experience in GMP or similar.Substantial experience in automation engineering and controls engineering; 10+ years overall.Read, troubleshoot, and repair hard‑wired control systems using schematics and wiring diagrams.Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).Flexibility to work across different shifts and collaborate across teams.Desirable SkillsExperience with Siemens, Breckhoff, Allen Bradley, and Bârell hardware, software systems, and controls.Experience in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools.Strong understanding of team dynamics and effective communication across organizational levels.Negotiation, creative problem‑solving, and teamwork.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementPCI Pharma Services is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
