Waste Connections has an immediate opening for a Welder to join our team in Elkhart, Indiana.
As a welder, you will be building and repairing metal containers, compactors, and more. You will operate equipment to organize and move containers in our storage yard. You will be expected to keep equipment in a safe working order.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform welding and repair of trash/compactor containers, compactor repairs, and metal repairs in our fleet.
* Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
* Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover and fix any flaws.
* Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards.
* Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
* Effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks and work as a team.
* Other job-related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
* Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds.
* Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks such as moving mechanical parts, requiring basic safety precautions.
* Work may be indoors in a shop or outdoors to repair containers in the yard. Usually well-lit and ventilated. Sometimes working in awkward or tight positions and handling greasy or dirty tools, following safety precautions.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* 1 year of experience welding.
* Experience using various welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, Plasma, MMA, etc.).
* Experience using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.).
